The Matrix Resurrections (2021) backfired financially. Matrix 1-3 were financially successful even though that was completely due to the first films promise.

If the plot, action, choreography, effects, characters, film style, acting, and all out mental baffling concepts were made, then it could still be possible.

That is how much people love this.

Matrix 4 came out during a pandemic, it experimented with HBO which had some result.

This film The Matrix Resurrections (2021) wasn't quite executed well enough, with some themes failing or being all out annoying or weird. The big characters like cypher went, then the original Morpheus, then the oracle, leaving a girl with a bindi.

As a society we are all fucked of with the system, corrupt governments, taxes, bias media, spying, wars and the films 1+4 work on those levels.

If Barbie can make a billion, then why cant some people make a brilliant piece of art.

I think they're making a mistake hinging the franchise on Keanu and Carrie-Anne. The Matrix is a world of endless possibilities where countless entries could be made with all new characters and settings. As long as they keep trying to recapture the magic of the first movie, it's never gonna take off.

you are so right, it needs to be remade with a new cast and plots.

They broke free of the main star for Alien (prequels), Predator (sequels) and tried it for Terminator (Salvation, sort of)
