His girlfriend is getting eaten alive, he has a gun, but instead of rescuing her he talks and begs for five minutes.

Yeah, but:

1. Korean. No gun culture. Probably had never even touched a gun before.
2. Humanity. The thought of using deadly force had probably never even occurred to him before.

Remind me again which part this was? Are you talking about the main character at the end pointing the gun at the stranger inside that apartment?

Yes, while the girl was likely being eaten.

The girl is a super hero. There were a few times when she was 'being eaten' that she managed to survive unscathed. I do think the Korean/humanity poster above makes good points too.
