Conceptual problem with the suit

The suit confers invisibility, we are not sure how, but the body mass stays the same within it (it can be stabbed, wounded). Why then does the wearer not block out whatever he is standing in front of, thus making him detectable? It is as if he becomes not only invisible but immaterial, as the light from whatever objects he is in front of can pass right through him. Immaterial, yet able to interact with other material bodies. Well it's only a movie; still, the freaking dbag could have become probably the most famous and richest person in the world, but instead chose to be a homicidal maniac, obsessed with a woman it would be charitable to describe as not a pippin. So in terms of realistic character, I think the sleazy voyeur in Hollow Man was a much more relatable fellow.

The movie wisely doesn't try too hard to explain

But it's fair to guess that the suit was optics-based, given its inventor's field of expertise

The close-up of the spare suit seemed to imply tiny projectors

I'm guessing the idea was something like this:

"retro-reflection technology" they called it back in 2003, where the suit captures images from behind it and projects them on its front

From what I understand, the suit is made of hundreds of cameras and screens. The back cameras shoots what's behind you and shows it on the front screens and vice-versa.

It's ridiculous and would never work so flawlessly.

The suit would be bulky, make it difficult to move and be noisy. Also, since the soles of the suit are like the rest of its surface, the bad guy should have be slipping and falling.

there are some prototype designs of such "camouflage" materials in developement. If they are still they work surprisingle effectively. Its movement that they have trouble with replicating. Theres videos on youtube.

The suit uses cameras on one side and projectos on the other to replicate the look of invisibility. The projectors can also replicate light because any such suit would necessitate the surface being a light source.
