The first 10 minutes really overshadow the rest of the movie

Nobody even really remembers what happened after. Without those first 10 minutes, this movie would've been like How To Train Your Dragon 2, it would've gotten great reviews but been very quickly forgotten.

I disagree entirely. While that first scene is great and really helps set the stage for this movie, the movie is still so much more. I wouldn't even even call the opening the most emotionally impactful, it does you one better later in the film. This movie is the total package and, yes, all of it sticks with me. It's a wonderful journey full of heart, comedy, and great adventure. It remains one of the best animated films ever made.

I agree. I watched the whole movie, not just the first 10 minutes of it. It was actually pretty much the only animated feature that I have enjoyed. Rest in peace Ed Asner.

Agreed.

Not only the rest of this movie but also seemingly all of Pixar's future output which has become bogged down in a thick, sweet sticky schmaltzy mud which they seem unable to free themselves from. It seems to come before even the requirement for good story telling.

I speculated further upon this in my groundbreaking piece - over on the Soul board - which has had critics raving:-
