Found it Entertaining

I liked it quite a bit. Had parts that had a lot of tension and the action scenes were gritty enough. There's nothing really new or surprising here, but if you're a fan of the genre, this is pretty good and worth a watch. 6/10

I liked it too. I agree it was really nothing new but it was done well and held my interest.

It was entirely derivative of other kidnap/missing loved ones narratives, but it managed to be kind of engaging anyway.

I kind of wish they had added some more twists to the police detective character. They set the detective up to be skeptical of Butler, and Butler's character does a bunch of impulsive stuff to reinforce that.

One disconnect for me is that the Kwik Stop clerk is at least a meth user if not dealer, and seems to be something of a known quantity to the detective, who treats him with more than a little disdain. Wouldn't Knuckles be basically the same once he's seen on the video? It feels like this detective doesn't have a great handle on the local criminal element.

It would have been more interesting if the Detective was deliberately slow-walking the kidnapping investigation for some reason -- mild corruption, or maybe his own ambition because he was on the verge of busting the meth lab and didn't want to blow that investigation for some hokey husband and wife beef. Instead the detective seems to pretty quickly drop his suspicions, despite Butler's increasingly violent antics.

I also think they could have pumped up the wife's adultery partner, if anything to add a level of intrigue and mystery. Instead the detective somehow has this guy eliminated as a suspect, including an in-depth electronic search of him, within hours of this thing getting reported, and way outside his own jurisdiction.

I also had trouble with Butler's bad-assery. Guy's a real estate developer, not a bouncer from a biker bar, yet he pretty easily manages a couple of guys who have definitely been around the block a few times. And what's the deal with Knuckles getting ready to flee for his life *without* immediately packing his Glock on his hip? Shit, I would have grabbed my gun before I started packing my undies.

All great points especially the detective not being suspicious of Knuckles at the gas station. He just takes his word that the cameras are broke. Butler kicking everyone's ass was probably the part of the film that was the biggest stretch, but that's kind of what I expected when watching a film starring him. Maybe all his attackers were high on meth lol
