Blind Faith

Watching that episode (6x10) i think that the planned Faith spin-off could have been very good! By the way the best spin-off ever would be about Charlie Runkle!

100% agree

Runks was a great character. His sad-sack nature and forced tenacity are really compelling. He was usually the funniest plot in any given episode, and Evan Handler did a brilliant job.

As for spinoffs, well... the problem with a Runkle spinoff, great though it could be, is that it would be too easy for the relationship angle to get botched. He and Marcie found a beautiful place at the end of the show, and writers could damage that alchemy.

Then there's Faith. I didn't know there were spinoff plans there, and that's not a good idea. It'd probably be "inspiration of the week" where she's just the Muse for some creatively cock-blocked rocker - no good. Sexually touched by an angel? It'd get old, fast. Faith was a great character, but as a main character, I don't think she'd fly.

The Faith spin-off could have also set in rular America, and have a good ensemble cast. In this way it could have worked

I do think any premise could work, but I just don't know what Faith's main conflict would be. Her hyper-religious mom? That would get real old, real fast. She sleeps with somebody and then they get inspired to get over their hangups and make really great art? How many times do you want to watch that storyline?

Now, sure, if it was about a former groupie finding herself, or maybe like a full series version of the movie Almost Famous, I could see that working, but with the way Faith was presented on Californication, I think it'd be really easy for them to sink into the quagmire of her just "inspiring" people, occasionally meeting up with her parents to argue, and it playing itself out real fast.
