Watching this again .... for like the 3rd time

There are a couple of things I notice.

1. Walt really turns into a complete jerk much faster that it seemed like at first.

2. S2 E6 Peekaboo ... when Jesse goes into the crack thieve's house with no plan and sees the little kid - why didn't he just leave and call child protective services and have them go check on the kid or the parents. They'd be in prison in no time - problem solved.

3. I remember at the time people really dumping all over Skyler, but she seems totally normal to me, just wanted to have a normal family with a normal life.

4. Hank is the hero of the show to me. Watching this again, I feel from a moralistic POV, this show is about Hank, and how he is made to be kind of a clown, but he is the only one in the show that stands up to the forces of chaos with courage and dignity. I really liked Hank, and it was very sad to see what happened to him. This show is a tragedy, the tragedy of America, but it is so subtly shown in order to suck the low-lifes into watching it they don't even realize they are being denounced.

People hate Skyler because they want to see Walt do cool illegal drug stuff
They dont understand that Skyler isnt watching Walt on TV, She's actually there , and all her concerns and actions are well meaning and justified.
But they just see a whiny bitch taking away from their walt-time

I may have to watch it again to see if I have a similar reaction, but just based on what I remember...

1. Walt was always a complete jerk. The cancer just gave him an excuse to be open with it. It's the "live like you are dying" question of how would you live and what would you do if you knew you were going to die next week or next month. It reveals who you truly are.

2. Jesse wasn't the sharpest. Your solution makes perfect sense. Jesse didn't always do what made sense.

3. I can see this both ways. Even during the first watching, I was like: here's a pregnant woman who is having her whole life turned upside down and she just wants some normalcy. However, there were plenty of times that she was just a wet blanket.

4. No way, no how. Hank was a hypocritical prick that is typical of law enforcement in general. There's always and excuse for his illegal behavior or his wife's illegal behavior, but anyone else is a thug or lowlife. People like Hank are the worst. They literally ruin peoples lives over the dumbest shit, then claim the moral high ground, all while ignoring the rules for themselves.

I like your #1.

But I disagree on Hank. Everyone is hypocritical and out for themselves to some degree, when it came down to it Hank could be counted on.

I watched the whole series twice. The first time, I guess I enjoyed watching Walt's rise to power. I didn't enjoy Skyler. I felt she was annoying. Hank seemed like a dope. Did not care for how he went out, though.

The second time around, it was completely different. I felt bad for Skyler. Between having a handicapped kid, a husband fighting cancer, and having another child on way. Then having to worry about herself and her family when she knows about Walt's criminal activities. She endured a lot.

I liked Hank a lot more, I was hoping he was going to get Walt. Can't change a TV show though. Hank seemed like a cocky cop on the outside. Throughout the show he showed he cared about his family. He had high character and hated how he died.

Walt became bad real quick, the second viewing. He should have known Hank would have been there to support Skyler and Walt Jr. had cancer got the best of him. The whole doing it for his family faded a lot quicker.

Great perceptions. That's why I say Hank was the bedrock of the show, he showed to me the basic goodness of the American people, despite some of the stupid things he would say. He is a great model for the whole racism controversy we have today. Not that America is not racist, but that about 75% of it just stupid or bad habits or a way of speaking. Real racism is horrible and needs to be squashed, but picking on things like the comments Hank made on occasion is counter-productive.

Great insights. Would you be willing to provide some more depth into how you believe the show portrays the tragedy of America? This isn't the first time I've heard of something similar.
