The Masters 2022

Anyone (here) watching? Yeah, I know ... BORING old white guy stuff. I used to feel that way too.

But is Scottie Scheffler ruining the event this year by destroying the field, or is he a superstar in the making?

Going in I had a hunch about Cameron Smith, and darned if he doesn't look like a very strong contender. We'll see on Sunday if Scheffler implodes and maybe Cam takes advantage, Scottie fulfills his density, or something else entirely happens (although those are the only two outcomes I can foresee). Might be interesting.

Scheffler looks too solid but I will be hoping the Aussie Cam Smith gets the win.
Random observation: Is it just me or does Scheffler look way older than 25? I thought he was 35 when I saw him.

reply

Hmm .... I wasn't paying attention to that aspect of the broadcast. He is kind of a big, lumbering guy, but you are right that if he's only 25, he does look older.
I do get a kick out of Cam, though, with the mullet and attempted mustache. Looks like he's straight out of community college, no matter what age he is. But he sure can putt when he gets a mind to. He'll probably end up being inconsistent like most players are, but he was super confident when he won the Player's tournament and really caught my eye.
But Scheffler is #1 in the world for a reason and was killing it out there today, so we'll see if he can keep the nerves down.
Kinda pulling for Cam but have nothing against Scottie. Actually, if SS blows it, it'll be a little sad after jetting out to such a lead.

I've caught a few hours of it but honestly I find the men's golf a bit dull these days. It's a combination of less charismatic players and the boring commentary I think. The raising of Tiger Woods to Demi-God status doesn't sit well with me either. The course still looks beautiful though.

"The raising of Tiger Woods to Demi-God status doesn't sit well with me either."

That is every major he has played in for the last 25 years though.

Just about everything on TV is boring these days, and golf is no exception.
But for me, I guess the combination of the pleasant environment and that whatever action that unfolds is unplanned and not manipulated makes it easier to swallow than scripted television. Leads change, some players falter while others get lucky, playing the game well shouldn't be taken for granted. It's a mini-drama that unfolds over four days, something to keep an eye on.

The Tiger stuff bothers me too, but he's not playing well, so maybe it will pass. But yes, the sports media has gone way overboard. I guess there aren't any better story lines to follow.

I watch the women's golf these days, or at least the little ten to twenty minute "highlights" they throw together and put on Youtube. The girls don't hit the ball as far or as hard but they still play a hell of a lot better than I used to. And generally they wear nice outfits and some of them are good looking and unlike the men they smile and have some fun. The men all look so grim like every shot is life and death.

I still haven't adapted / adopted watching edited highlight versions of sporting events, and I'm not sure why. I try to follow hockey but rarely if ever go to Youtube for condensed versions of games, and while in theory it sounds good, I still haven't. I suppose this could change.

I used to subscribe to a sports streaming service to watch the women's golf but I found I didn't like watching it live. It takes too long and a lot of the time not much is happening. Oh for the days of professionally edited and commentated highlight packages. They were so much better than live sport telecasts in my opinion.
