I'm not seeing the need to remake this classic

...the original was an underappreciated gem.

Oh, and as fine of an actor as John Lithgow is, he is no Fred Gwynne.

reply

Gwynne was perfect as a long time Mainer. Lithgow just doesn't convince in this part, based on the clips I've seen. Nothing against Lithgow as an actor. He's usually great.

Honestly, i don't really care. Never could understand the people who b*tch about remakes. If you don't want to watch it, then don't watch it... no one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to watch.

I'll give it a chance when it comes out, maybe I'll like it, maybe I wont. But neither result is going to 'ruin' the original for me.

reply

It should bother you...there are plenty of poorly done movies that could be remade first, then, and only then, should they go after the ones that were already done well, i.e. classics.

Oh, and thanks enough for caring to post a comment on this thread.

I don't mind remakes as long as they are well made. Most of them are just cash ins on popular movies, though.

I never thought the original one was a classic. It was entertaining and scary but folks, it has aged really badly. It has way too many goofy parts (like the ghost scenes, for example).

reply

There is a reason the original is underappreciated. It's not that good. It's just okay.
