Is this movie really about space?

Or something else. It seems more existential. It seems more about confronting death and the abyss and what lies beyond. Space-movie is just the medium. It made a lot of people uncomfortable because of that.

Who said it was about space?

It's a common misconception fostered by the title and the image of a guy in a spacesuit on another planet.

It’s a misconception that “Interstellar” is a space-related term.

Look at intercontinental. One can travel between continents by sea, by air, by land-based machine or even walking.

If wormholes can or do exist, one could be located on our end in the men’s bathroom at Sak’s on 5th Avenue. Land you on a planet 700,000,000 miles away and you’d need a suit for the expected lack of human breathable air at the other planet. Space would have nothing to do with it other than being the conduit.

Was the movie Stargate about “outer space”? Starman? No. Not really.

A movie can be about more than one thing.

This movie is a giant metaphor for sexual reproduction.

what you are describing is true science fiction.

a movie about space is probably a documentary or maybe an adventure/fantasy like the Star Wars soga.
