Mad Men is now available on IMDB TV (free with ads)

You can watch it on Amazon Prime as well, but again, with Ads.

reply

Ironic that they make you sit through ads to watch a show about making ads.

reply

It is, but at least it's available again. I was afraid AMC was going to move it to their premium streaming channel. Hopefully, HBO will come around and migrate The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Carnival, Six Feet Under, and Deadwood to IMDB TV (Amazon) as well.

reply

I liked Boardwalk for the historical settings and costumes. Some of the stories were good. But it was too graphic sexually and violent wise for my taste.

reply

I agree. I watched breaking bad, but Boardwalk empire was just too much for me. don't know anything about the costumes since I only watched the first episode.

Really wish we could get some cheerful tv. Reality is bad enough.

reply

I heard the same about Game of Thrones. I have never seen it.

reply

Do you mean Game of Thrones? I know a lot of people who couldn't take the violence on that either. I had read the books so I was at least able to predict when there was going to be violence, and I find gore less off-putting in books than on film. I will say that the opening score and visuals were one of the big draws that kept me coming back to Game of Thrones, all the music really (by Ramin Djawadi, amazing composer). There were some really good visual moments at the end of episodes too, like the episode 10 closing scene from season 6 (season 6 finale). Also at some point I figured out that they were going to finish the tv series before the author finished the books, and I wanted to know the ending of the series.

reply

Thank you, I edited it.

I saw one episode of Queer as Folk years ago, some scenes were quite graphic as well.

reply

I never saw that one. Is it the sexuality that's graphic? I find that I tend to be really put off by that kind of thing. I don't know why. I tried Outlander, which many women like, and it's a very passionate love story, I guess. But I just found it too explicit. I wonder if it's because I know that graphic violence is mainly CGI, whereas explicit sexuality is real people, and maybe I find that very awkward. Or maybe I worry that it's awkward for the actors.

I think before everything got very explicit, tv and movies used to do quite a lot of romance via people giving each other longing looks. Can't we go back to that?

reply

I never saw "Outlander", although I heard about it. I guess I will always be a prude when it comes to erotic scenes. I prefer sweet romances where I can use my imagination. Mild sexy is OK. I am a peace loving person by nature, and can not stomach graphic violence although it is fantasy.

reply

I feel the same. I seem to watch a lot of violent stuff, because my husband likes it. I would rather the same stories but with the violence toned down (way down!). It's as if storytellers feel they've run out of new story ideas that aren't violent. I tend to just look away when things get gory.

A lot of it seems very cynical too. I don't think people are as terrible in real life as they are on Game of Thrones. Breaking Bad is slightly different because it's looking at an abnormal subculture. Even so, I didn't really need to see most of the gore on there.

Yes, sweet romances are so much nicer. I think it is a lot more fun when things are implied rather than showing me every detail. Thanks, I could do without that.

I guess it's the same for violence and sex: just less of everything would be nice. Haha.

It was indeed very graphic. It also suffered from character favoritism as they portrayed Luciano and Meyer with a little too much gloss as opposed to the other characters like Nucky, Capone, and even the law enforcement. It's also historically inaccurate as they killed off Nucky but the guy he's based on lived and died an old man. He even outlasted Lucky LOL

reply

Who was he based on?

reply

Enoch Thompson was a real crime boss. The TV series took liberties with his biography.

reply

Thanks. I will do a little research on him.

reply

Good I can see the 2nd part of the last episode. I use to watch it on DVD.

reply

That's great and all, but I have the whole series on blu-ray. So I'll watch it that way instead.

reply

I use to watch stuff on IMDB, back when they still had their forums.
