If she didn't want to have the child she could have...

Aborted. It's not wrong, simply if it's unwanted (banged by some dude, raped, too young, etc) then it's perhaps for the better that the mother doesn't give birth.

I do have to say I liked the movie more the first time I seen it than now.

reply

If she was going to abort, we wouldn't have a movie about a woman going through pregnancy.

reply

If that's the movie you wanted to see here are your options...

1. make your own movie where the girl has an abortion.
2. see the film Obvious Child

Probably much cheaper to do option 2.

I think Allison might have considered an abortion, but seeing the 8 week fetus on the ultrasound screen was just too much.

reply

Killing someone is always wrong.

reply

Lol, I wish you were aborted ?

reply

It isn't a someone, its a something. Just a bunch of cells clotted together

reply

You think of yourself as "just a bunch of cells clotted together".

<< You think of yourself as "just a bunch of cells clotted together"? >>

When I was just a bunch of 8-week-old cells clotted together, Yes.

reply

Well out of those cells came you so in a way... Technically it would be as killing you.

Btw, I am not 100% against abortion.

I'm not so egotistical to think the world couldn't have done without me. And since I would have no memory of being terminated, or of the life I would have lived, I'd have no regrets. I would have no consciousness, period.

If there is Another Side out there in the great beyond, I'd be reincarnated (hopefully into more welcoming circumstances), or as an innocent little babe I would fly straight into the arms of the blessed lord jesus...(if he's real)

So it's kind of Win/Win.

I can't deny that you have a point...

I thought the same thing, she obviously wasn't happy about being pregnant and didn't even know Ben that well. Then she decided to keep it? Imagine if her baby took after Ben,(ewwww!)

reply

8 weeks is the cut off point for abortion. Even if she chose that option her time was up for it.

reply

In the DVD commentary director Judd Apatow explains why Alison decided to keep the baby. Seeing the heartbeat during the ultrasound as a factor, as well as her mom's comments about how she wasn't having a "real" baby (so it was in part an act of defiance). I suggest listening to the commentary if you haven't already!

reply

[she could have] Aborted. It's not wrong,

The point of view of whether it's wrong or not depends on your moral compass or lack of one.
