Is The Batman Better Than The Dark Knight?

The Batman is yet another acclaimed reinvention of the Caped Crusader, but is it a better movie than The Dark Knight? Here's how they compare.

I’ve seen The Batman twice now and I personally prefer it over The Dark Knight, but I do have a lot of love and nostalgia for the latter.

I think Pattinson’s Batman is better, the visual style is better (Gotham looks gross and nightmarish) the cinematography (Some of Greig Fraser’s best work) the score and action scenes are better. Also there are fewer plot holes than The Dark Knight, which I know that sounds like nitpicking but gotta give credit for a screenplay that’s as well crafted as The Batman’s.

Heath Ledger’s Joker is one of the best villains in cinema history though and there’s no denying how influential The Dark Knight has been to other action thriller films.

I definitely prefer The Batman to The Dark Knight. Though The Batman definitely isn’t perfect, it’s much closer conceptually to the kind of Batman movie I crave. It didn’t really justify it’s runtime, and could have used a bit less of the mobster story stuff, but overall it was a great watch and hopefully there’s more to come from Reeves/Pattinson.

I was never a huge fan of any of Nolan’s Batman movies. The Dark Knight was at least the best of the three, because of Heath’s Joker and the Harvey Dent story arc was quite compelling. But the rest is just not my cup of tea when it comes to super hero cinema.
