There's a reason why Sean Spicer, who's had the lowest scores this season, has never been in danger of elimination. It's because the judges' scores don't really matter, especially with live voting allowing people to vote without watching the show.
Article seems illogically written, assuming that everyone wants the same kind of system that it wants. Why can't people just accept that there is no perfect system?
I also think it's ridiculous to expect people to vote based on performances. People have always voted for whoever they like and nothing's going to change that.

That's true, but the weighting of the audience vote must be changed, or they're really going to shoot themselves in the foot.
My wife's a big fan. How big? She's seen every traveling tour the Dances company makes except one, and she and her friends get the VIP package for a meet and greet and a bag of (worthless) swag.
She's had it. This is not the first time a truly clumsy "dancer" has stayed and one of the top three in skill gets booted off with another 8 dancers still left.
Right now it's about 50-50. If you weaken the audience vote, the votes don't matter and nobody will do it. This reduces a major source of fun for viewers who feel they are more a part of things when they can vote.
It's far from the first time, yet she has stayed all these years? Why stop now? Nothing has changed, not really.
The show has a lot more appeal than just the end result. The journey's worth something too.
For all we know, the votes aren't always even counted and they just dump whatever contestant they want for whatever reason. There's no control on them -- they can do what they want. Other reality shows like Big Brother have essentially done that. It's in ABC's Entertainment division, not Sports.
