Am I the only one who thinks this?

In practically every humanity-eradicating pandemic movie like this there is a small group of survivors who make it despite quarantine measures.
Am I the only one who thinks that in such a situation, surviving isn't a priority?
Every single one of those people in the movies I'm talking about, including this one, should have given their lives to ensure that the pandemic doesn't consume the entire race.
Am I the only one who is on the side of the swat teams?

If you had the decision of either surviving and possibly dooming the human race or dying by youself, which would you choose?
