Beautiful Film

Seen this three times now and it just gets better and better. I find it moving and beautiful, incredibly well made, directed and acted .
Anyone else agree with me?

reply

Not me...I thought it was great!

reply

so...you .... agree then...

I cried when I saw this movie. I guess I am a hopeless romantic.

reply

I loved it and will definitely watch it again.

Brevity is the soul of wit.

reply

Hell yeah!

8/10 easy

reply

I liked it - I loved the book - I'm really glad they didn't screw it up.

reply

I loved the book as well. When I heard they were making a movie, I really questioned how they were going to do it and stay true to the book. I think they did a decent job.

reply

Yes. It's silly but when I really like a book I almost don't want to watch the film in case it disappoints.

reply

I usually find that if I watch a movie first, I can enjoy the book and not really compare while reading, but if I read the book first....I usually get really grumpy.

reply

Didn't they change the end radically for the film though?

reply

To be honest, I can't remember. It's been a while since I read the book and I've watched the film a few times since. But I did like the film a lot when I first watched it so they must have stayed pretty close to the original story and the feel of it.

reply

They did change it, but I honestly feel they changed it for the better.

I'm editing to clarify that I do like the book ending better, but I think the movie ending is more in line with the movie. I think that the changes for the movie work with the movie and didn't make me angry. :)

Haven't read the book, but seeing how there's nothing but universal praise for it in every thread on the topic, am adding it to my list.

Watched this movie for the first time in over a decade and thought it was great.

Also bittersweet to see how there are barely any political arguments in the older posts archived from IMDb. Open any movie's page from the last 6 years or so and there's a ton of ugly and bitter arguments about topics like woke and LGBT and Trump. Too bad we can't go back to the days past when the posts were mostly just discussing the movie and its actors, plot etc.

I actually picked up a copy at the weekend to give to someone - now I'm thinking I'll read it again myself before I pass it on - sometimes it's nice to sit down with an old favourite.

reply

Indeed.

A question. In the movie, when Eric Bana first meets the young 8 year old Clare in the meadow, she mentions her brother Mark and Bana also remarks in that encounter that he'll fall from a tree and break his arm in the coming weekend.

But that character is never mentioned again. Later in their wedding, they show her having a sister tho.

Did the book ever have anything more about him or was that a change they made for the movie in that one scene and went no further with it? I thought Ron Livingston's character was the guy, but his name is Gomez and he says he's Clare's friend.
