Any other similar films set in the British countryside?

I like films which make use of the lovely British countryside scenery, usually set in small rural areas. I prefer it when said films are dark with revenge elements or something similar, which was one of the reasons why I loved dead man's shoes.

Are there any other revenge or dark films set in the British countryside? The only other I can think of is 'outlaw' which is nothing special.

Local Hero, a different kind of movie altogether but seems an obvious choice.

Twin Town is pretty rural. A dark comedy that's far from being a masterpiece but good fun all the same.

The Guard. Yes, I know it's Irish but, if it wasn't for the accents, you wouldn't know it wasn't rural Britain.

The Children might be worth checking out if you can get past the horrendous ADR at the beginning.

Surely Hot Fuzz deserves a mention.

And The Supergrass, a comedy filmed in Devon in the mid 80s, an old favourite I haven't watched in ages which may have dated somewhat.

[Edit] How could I have forgotten Skeletons? This bizarre gem gives the English countryside a mysterious otherworldly quality and is well worth checking out.

Also, if you're looking for beautiful countryside, The Trip is a must. Starting life as a tv series, this has been edited down into a film for the US. A buddy/road movie through some of the most picturesque parts of Britain.

Only the closed mind is certain.

I'd recommend Robert Carlyle starrer 'Summer'. Brilliantly shot, kind of depressing but a really good film.

Sam Peckinpah's 'Straw Dogs' comes to mind.

So mountains aren't a type of countryside? And Scotland is not in Britain?

Try the red riding trilogy, starring paddy considine, andrew garfield and sean bean, not exactly like dead mans shoes but it may fit the bill of what your looking for...

I thought this was an updated "Get Carter" (Michael Caine version).

Not a copy, by any means, but similar setting and theme. Definitely worth seeing.
