What happened on Kobol?

I know the show never comes right out and tells us ALL of the details - and that is fine, ambiguity is not the worst thing in the world - but I'm trying to piece together roughly what happened after a recent re-watch.

I don't know if I forgot this or never picked up on it, but the 13th tribe, the humanoid cylons, left well before the other 12. I had thought they left as the result of a war between man and machine, but this doesn't appear to be the case? Or that WAS the case and then the 12 tribes left years later for another reason?

That point is not very clear in the series. You have it in the wiki, though. The humanoid cylons are survivors from the 13th tribe, while the robotic ones are new artificial life created in Caprica.

The humanoid cylons left Kobol prior to the other 12 colonies ancestors. I was originally under the impression they all left at once. So something happened that caused the humanoids to leave. Then something happened that made the humans leave. Two separate wars? If so, between who? Was the first war between human and cylon or was it human and humanoid cylon vs toasters? Then what as the 2nd war? It's not clear and I'm asking for personal theories.

It was a long time ago that I last watched BSG, but I seem to remember something about the "Gods" battling, which was the Kobol war. I always assumed the "Gods" were the humanoid cylons. And that after they defeated the rest of the Kobolians, they migrated to the 13 colonies. Something like that.

There were two incidents. One caused the 13th Colony - the humanoid cylons - to leave. Logic and the continued theme of "All this has happened before, and all this will happen again." certainly makes it possible that a war between humans and cylons happened.

But then why did humanity leave Kobol 12 2000 years later?

I will have to re-watch those episodes to figure it out! Thanks for giving me an excuse to do so :)
