Don't get all the hate. I thought this movie was fantastic.

Seriously people, lighten up. This is just a Christmas movie after all. I thought all the cast did a great job in this and I love watching this movie at Christmas.

The premise is stupid, unrealistic and full of inconsistencies. I know it's a comedy but suspension of disbelief only goes so far and here it doesn't work. Not to mention, the way it promotes conformity is pretty sickening.

reply

Bingo.

The thing about the whole neighborhood wanting them to decorate for Christmas seemed pretty stupid. In 2004, people were starting to become offended by others saying "Merry Christmas!" I don't think what they did would have flown, even close to 15 years ago.

But, I guess if you can see past that then sure, it's a silly little holiday film. Something to help pass the time.

Not at all. In my town we have neighborhoods where every house sets up displays and have for decades. Our paper publishes lists of all the great displays in town and, again, has done so for decades.

Some people may be "offended" but most of us enjoy Christmas and the lights. (Yes, I know, many also do not. That doesn't deter the rest of us.)

Its good. Many Christmas movies lately have a 'message.' First time I've seen Jamie Lee Curtis play comedy.

I love this movie, It is a classic for me and yeah IT IS A BAD MOVIE, in terms of plot, characters, etc... but I like it, it is a guilty pleasure LOL

i agree with guillermobosque

It was OK. A waste of a great cast though, and many of the characters and their reactions were stupidly unrealistic. The movie needed some Griswold edge and less shmaltz.

This movie is a family favorite. It's one we watch together every year. We love it.

I don't think Luther was selfish at all. Sure he could have handled a few things better but this is a movie and things will be over the top.

The book is excellent too. I read it every year.

I thought the pacing and plot of the movie was mediocre most of the way through, until the scene with Tim Allen handing over the cruise tickets, at which point the movie actually becomes genuinely heartfelt and moving, and something else entirely.

That being said, I think Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis save most of this dreck. I know it's average, I know it's conformist, but damn despite all of it I could not help but enjoy this movie.
