Not nearly as hardcore as I remember

Watched it today for the first time in, hell I don't know, at least 10 years. I remember the reputation it had right out of the gate, and of course how the sequels really dove into that "torture porn" label. This one, though, really wasn't all that bad. The most gruesome thing you probably see is the girl digging through some innards for the key to her headgear, and that's only a couple second shot. Sure you see quite a bit of blood, but as far as actual gore goes, not all that much.

Pretty tame, really.
The hardest thing to stomach is Carey Elwes and the acting clinic he put on.

reply

Haha can't really argue with you there.

reply

Well it doesn't have to be... because it has an actually interesting story compared to most of the other Saw movies...

reply

They certainly used theater of the mind . The same thing worked for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It implies gore moe than shows it.

reply

This movie is pretty tame compared to the rest. As the series moves along it starts showcase the gore and torture.

reply

The stories got weaker and the gore increased.

reply

Yes I agree. They threw in flashbacks to keep it somewhat interesting. But the actual "games" and stories got, as you said, weaker.

reply

Also accounting for what it inspired in Hostel and others that followed, as well as the sequels, obviously.
