I'm reading the book but the movie (so far) has nothing in common

The first half of the movie was invented for the movie and it was simply setting up why the characters had to go to the card game, however the characters motivations are still pretty much the same. Le Chiffre has to win the card game because he owes a ton of money and Bond is trying to win it to stop him from getting it while Vesper is being extorted into being a double agent. Once they get to Montenegro despite the fact that the movie takes place in 2006 and the novel in the 50’s it’s fairly similar.

For me, the perfect example of a movie being better than the book is "Jaws". In the book, the shark is more of a problem that uncovers a lot of the island's problems, and there are no likeable characters. Even Brody is an a$$hole!
