Clive Owen's Master Performance

Though early in his career I never liked him or even his character in the movie.
He played it perfectly. I think he should've won an oscar.
He was so vicious yet so right. He prettty much carried the film besides the lovely beauties and the soft Jude Law character.
He had every right to be ruthless with both. They both betrayed him and he really loved her so he had no choice but to be completely evil to be victorious. Though farfetched he met Portman again and a bit over the top no the vengeance.
Clive did the play and played Jude's character. I wish there was an alternative version where he play him or a taping of the play.

I don't see him as vicious. Why would he be. He was a perfectly kind, thoughtful and attentive husband. But his wife's betrayal brought out a different side of him. And why would he let the other guy win? He was scum.

reply

He went after a girl he knew wasnt for him. Then he badgered her insensibly. Then he coerced her to sleep with him. Then he slept with Jude’s ex. Then he went back with his wife after he did everything possible to destroy their relationship. Then he morally and spiritually destroyed Jude viciously without empathy or mercy. Though I agree with what you said the other guy being scum. Still, I dont think that is how a normal person acts. Nor do I think either woman was worth it.

reply

I agree with you except that Alice/Jane was worth it (but that wasn’t his primary aim).

In broad strokes he was more blameless than Jude Law or Julia Roberts, but the way he acted moment to moment, starting with the online chat, was pretty sleazy.

Clive Owen is the man. He was awesome in children of men too.
