I like the TV series from 1981 much more


I suppose cos I grew up with it, and Douglas Adams was more creative and more humble then, before dollar signs made him change and Americanise everything.

He did but he was heavily involved with the pre-production. A lot of his ideas are supposedly lin the film, going off his final draft and notes. The rumor mill also suggested that he wanted Hugh Laurie as Arthur and Jim Carey as Zaphod, but that sounds a bit like fan casting to me. Sure would have been a completely different (superior) film. I remember the Carey rumors but I had no idea who Laurie was back then. I know Adams was kind of always driven by the story evolving and being different every time it was told, so a faithful adaption of the book was never gonna happen with him around.
