Words can't express how much I HATED this movie

I saw it for the first time as an inflight movie and caught a few minutes of it this weekend. I can't get over just how bad this movie is. Everything about it from the script to the casting to the ridiculous scenes with Susan Sarandon. I was secretly hoping that the movie would end up in a bloodbath.

I agree. I am lost for words. Up till now I have relied on IMDB but this movie should never have been allowed a revue other than to wish they all died as soon as possible. There is a deep revelation hiding here as to why our world is in trouble.

i agree that elizabethtown was artificial in the way that the situations and characters were so unnatural, contrived and cringeworthy. perhaps it was due to the poor acting or the cheesy script (that tries too hard to be heartfelt) but i felt nothing for the characters. the only thing i felt was regret that orlando's lousy knife stabby contraption/machine wasn't able to fulfill it's potential at the beginning of the film

reply

Yeah I didn't like the Susan Sarandon scene actually

I've not really got anything to add, other than that this is one of the absolute worst movies I've seen in a while. That whole "Whimsical" bit near the beginning made me want to punch Cameron Crowe in the face. Hard. And the rest of the script is just as bad. It's just a lot of hip, kooky one liners desperately clawing at being 'whimsical'. Geez.
And the acting. This movie made me realise how crap Orlando Bloom is. Seriously, he's bland, his American accent stinks, he just sucks. But then there's Susan Sarandon. That tap dancing scene is one of the WORST THINGS I HAVE EVER WITNESSED. What the hell was that? I felt physically ill. It was so god damned false.
Cameron Crowe can go to hell. Almost Famous was good, Jerry Macguire was fine, Vanilla Sky wasn't great and now this. THIS. I gave it a 3, and I urge everyone else to do the same, because the 6.4 it's sitting on right now for the imdb user rating is FAR too generous.

No, no. Psychopaths kill for no reason. I kill for money. It's a job. That didn't come out right.

Well...I liked it. Guess I'm just weird. Or have bad taste in film. Or both.

We were supposed to have a signature?

Well, I just didn't get this movie. I didn't even see how this could be called a romantic comedy: there was certainly nothing comedic about it and the romance was flat. After watching it, I didn't see what the whole point was. He screws up some shoe project, gets fired, suddenly stops being suicidal, finds some VERY strange flight attendant he bangs, goes to his dead dad's old town where a bunch of hicks worshipped him and then goes on some random, elaborate road trip the crazy flight attendant planned out for him out of nowhere, where he eventually hooks up with her again??? Seriously, this movie was strange but not at all in a good way. "The Big Lebowski" was both weird AND funny. This was just a waste of time. I seriously didn't get it and I didn't like one character in this entire movie. Nothing but weirdos, freaks and hicks. I do like watching Paula Deen's show sometimes as she makes some very tasty looking food (albeit HORRIBLE for you in terms of health) but that's as close it gets.

I really disliked this movie too. I'm not the kind of guy to create a "This is the worst movie ever" thread on imdb, and I don't think it's one of the worst films I've seen, but I felt really annoyed, kind of angry while I was watching it. I don't like leaving the theater before the end of the movie because I always expect something will happen by the end of the film which will make me find it interesting anyway. But I wish I had.

I thought the film was going in too many directions without deepening the situations. There were unnecessary characters and plots. I don't care whether it was realistic or not, I simply thought that there was no chemistry between the characters and that the emotions were forced on the viewer, as if the director was thinking "I want this to be a feel-good movie with pure emotions between lovely characters". It turned out to be presomptuous and fake. And unfortunately, I found Orlando Bloom flat and empty. All Kistern Dunst was doing was her usual cute little smile.

A very long movie without much substance. Horribly disappointing.

Wow... After all I guess I've saved up some useful time... You know that my sis LOVES this movie? She watches it EVERYTIME it's on cable!! And for some reason I have only seen some parts... Which has been more than enough for me to realize that I won't like this movie... I agree exactly with some of the guys who replied before about feeling angry with this... For some reason I've been really annoyed by it too.

I've heard somewhere that its a poorly imitation of Garden State (which I'm not sure not having seen completely the movie) and I liked that one a lot. Is this true?

Plus, I'm not really a big Crowe's fan...

joining the party late, keeping the thread alive

ended up w Elizab. bc of Paul Schneider
saw him in Away We Go last night, brilliant, wanted more immediately
can't believe how much Bloom and Sarandon blows

was somehow entertained though, double vodka fueled, but still
if Dunst blew as well the vodka and my male background may explain low standards on that part

whole Kentucky crowd thing was lovely, as was the final road trip (for a European wanting to take that trip someday)

unbelievable/fascinating how Crowe can fail in such a way
mess of a movie (and soundtrack vehicle, literally) (precious flashbacks 10 and 20 years back with Wheat 'don't I hold you' and Elton J tumbleweed c.)
