i liked the south american settings and the nuke town/desert.

Not for me. I think the third was the best.

Part of the reason Is that the locations were there.

The end of #4 looked like a set. I just rewatched this and I find the end to be hard to watch because of the look.

You forgot the fantastic Aztec setting. Indy and his group coming across an entire group of natives was fantastic. In the cinema I was like "YES THIS IS INDIANA JONES!" This film sure had such brilliant locations.
