why was he interested in her?

let me preface saying, I don't like pecking at movies and accept them for their entertainment value exactly as is, and I enjoyed this film as it is.

after several watches, I'm looking at Victor's motivation for pursuing the girl. I'm male, so I know I don't need much to be interested... pretty is fine, sexy is fine, speaking and breathing is fine.... but was there anything more to why he was suddenly interested in her? Sure, she was pretty and forward and attractive smile, and he fell for her. Was that pretty much it? I'm not saying that is wrong, and it is a common trope - guy sees her once and falls in love (actually lust since that is our primary drive) but it didn't feel like much supported his interest. There she was, within eye shot, and boom, the slow methodical pursuit begins.

Again, not saying that is wrong, just I didn't see her being anything different than many other girls that wondered through. He, on the other hand, is a prize, with honest loyalty and all that.

You'd have to be a eunuch to not be interested in Catherine Zeta-Jones. 😜

I fully agree with that! I love CZJ tons! Always a pleasure to take in. :)

The movie was not very good. Typical silly "feel good" movie. Where everyone acts the opposite of how most people would act in the real world. So it doesnt matter if she is a cookie cutter woman...

And yes I know this is based in a true story.

Did you even watch the movie to ask such a stupid question? Aside from her looks, she was one of the first people to not be a total dick to him or ignore him. She was willing to talk to him. Then she knew interesting stuff about history and was nice to Viktor. And it's more like she pursued him once they spoke and only when he felt he could carry himself well with a nice suit, money to eat, did he try to do anything besides talk.

it's been a while since I posted this, but of course I WATCHED it. I own a copy and have watched it several times, which is WHY I asked "such a stupid question". Apparently, I got a different impression than your viewing brought you... THUS... I had this question to see what others think about this situation.

This is how humanity works: we communicate and share experiences about it.
This is the reason for MESSAGE BOARDS. No need to be a dick about it.

Maybe you are right, or perhaps your personal experiences and perspective make your answer correct for you. I don't recall thinking her actions were anything more than basic respect and niceness to someone not trying to sleep with her out of the gate. I just didn't see WHY he thought she was anything more than a pretty smile, and that is not wrong either.

AFTER SEVERAL VIEWINGS, it seemed to me to be forced writing - needing a romance to happen in the movie so it does. Doesn't feel well supported or effective. TO ME. Yet, I still enjoy the film.
