Yes it's flawed, but I don't hate it...

The weird thing about Blade: Trinity is that while I always found it the weakest of the three when I first saw it... I still didn't hate it, nor did anyone else I knew hate it. We thought it was a decent-enough follow-up. For a long time, I hadn't met anyone who was a fan of the series who actually overtly disliked it. In fact, I didn't know it was generally disliked before I stumbled onto the this site one day years later and discovered its infamy.

I was in high school the year this came out, and it really blew up at my school. A lot of the people I knew went out and saw it and enjoyed it. It was the sort-of "access film" for a lot of series fans that I know (particularly fans who were too young to see the original in theaters but were old enough by the time this one rolled out), and through it they discovered the first two and how great they were.

Maybe its because I came into it with no pre-conceived notions or knowledge of its behind-the-scenes drama, or maybe it's because I saw all three films for the first time in rapid succession (I wasn't one of the ones who watched this first, I had to watch them from the beginning, but I did it over the course of a few days)... but I still don't think it's an absolutely terrible film. Merely a bit underwhelming. And obviously nowhere near as good as the first two.

Anyone else have an experience with this film like this? Where you enjoyed it alright, but then found out about how much it was "hated" way after the fact?

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

Yeah some movies are like that. In the real world most people who saw the movie spoke positively about it. Most echoed your sentiments, which I agree with, that the first two are superior but this isn't a terrible flick. The new characters aren't great, but any blade is better than no blade.

But yes, I saw it with a group of people and we all walked out having enjoyed ourselves. As far as trilogies go, you can find way worse ones out there. It seems it's mostly on IMDb that people hate this movie with such vigor.

I was lucky enough to see all 3 films in the theater. The time between the films does make a difference because it allows fans to develop expectations and based off of how good Blade II was, this was a letdown.

Another big thing was Ryan Reynolds. Now I don't mind him (Deadpool), but at the time I wasn't a fan of his and for a lot of people you either hated or loved his role.

 me.

I like it a lot. The action and pace are good, and Hannibal and Abigail are good.

yeah I enjoyed it as well

Ryan Reynolds was decent in it.

I didn't see the first one until HBO. The other two i saw in theaters. In my opinion, the first one was the least favorite. Almost had an incomplete feel to it, like they hadn't yet decided what direction to take the character yet.

Blade II was always my fave, this one was a bit of a mess but that was due to the execution not the performances, this really should have been two films rather than one. The first a set up for Dracula and the introduction of the Nightstalkers with the fourth film solely focusing on Blade vs Dracula.

It’s currently a 5.9 on imdb which seems a little harsh, its better than a ton of recent superhero movies, but that aint saying much.
