Other movies about incest... (some spoilers possible)

***UPDATED 5/11/2009***

Here is a list I put together myself, the ratings are all mine, and therefore subjective.

First, there are some spoilers within, however minor some may be...
Second, incest — in real life — is NOT sensual, or sexy, or beautiful, it is ugly and horrid and about taking power away from the victim. However, since it is a taboo — in *film* — it can be sensual and tender. To all incest victims, please take no offense in this, it is a list about *film* only, and in no way minimizes your ordeal.

That being said...

* Stars are for the quality of the film [0 = none]
+ Pluses are given for the sensuality (not explicitness) of the incest

*** 0 The Shipping News - father and daughter (off screen recollection)

Actually it was an older brother that raped his sister, not a father and daughter incident.

Close My Eyes is an excellent film, quite twisted, the brother sister are not only in a destructive and ill-advised relationship, they're being very selfish too. The only person who comes out of it as a good person is Sinclair, the husband.

An Awfully Big Adventure has a shock ending where you find a father has been sleeping with his daughter. He had no idea she was the product of an affair he had 17 years previous, he thought he had a son somewhere out there, has even been looking for the woman he got pregnant and her child, when he came back and got involved with a younger woman he had no clue she could be his daughter. When he finds out who her mother is the fact he'd seduced her upsets him to say the least.

I haven't read any of the reply posts, but I have a very good example- SIX WAYS TO SUNDAY! Son (Norman Reedus) and Mother (Debbie Harry). It's mostly just a creepy overbearing mother situation/sexual tension throughout the movie, but SPOILERRRRRRRRR they finally do it at the end and then she kills herself. He just puts her in a body bag and moves to a new town! GREAT movie though.

The War Zone - Father and Daughter sexual acts shown on screen

The Piano Teacher - Daughter grabs mother for some heavy akward kissing and groping. ~ just weird if you ask me lol

The Color Purple - Father rapes daughter but it is later found out that the Father is not the father after all but a stepfather

And so it goes....

A hungarian film "Forbidden Relations" deals exactly this topic. A man and a woman didn't know they are half-brother and sister until after they spent a night together. Yet unwilling to yield to the community and started a family. A very serious movie. Supposedly based on a true story.

Chances Are -- (plot summary) -- Louie Jeffries is happily married to Corinne. On their first anniversary, Louie is killed crossing the road. Louie is reincarnated as Alex Finch, and twenty years later, fate brings Alex and Louie's daughter, Miranda, together. It's not until Alex is invited to Louie's home that he begins to remember his former life, wife and best friend. Of course, there's also the problem that he's attracted to Louie's/his own daughter.

It stars Robert Downey Jr. At the end, his memory totally gets erased and he's free to date his "daughter". But I guess it wouldn't be considered incest since he was just reincarnated and isn't biologically related. But I still had those thoughts!

Ma Mère
The Dreamers (not really, unnaturally close relationship between brother and sister)
The Cider House Rules (I believe that it was consummated, because the daughter was pregnant with her father's child.)
