My thoughts on this movie

Pros
-Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor (don't care what people say if he's a paedo)
-Brandon Routh did his best
-The flying scenes
-The score
-The visuals
-Cameos from Jack Larson and Noel Neil
-Pays respect to the Donner movies really well
-Frank Langella as Perry White

Cons
-Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. She was too young for the part and I feel like someone like Rachel McAdams would have been better suited for the role
-The story could have been a lot better, they should have went with a different villain other than like like Brainiac or Bizzaro.
-Superman fighting a mountain seemed like a stupid idea
-The movie kinda drags with some of the talking scenes

Overall not a bad movie as people think, but better than Superman III and IV. Well shot and watchable overtime, but it could have been better.

This movie has a lot of things I like and a couple I love. You covered it pretty well. The airplane rescue is amazing. My favourite Superman scene of all-time is the one where he flies with Lois and explains to her what he hears vs. what she hears. It's so touching.

I liked Kate Bosworth just fine, but I won't argue that they probably could have found a better actor for the role. I think Rachel McAdams would've been very similar to Bosworth, for some reason.

They should have tightened up the story, yes.

Superman Returns is definitely underrated. People really ditched on the film, but it's a solid movie and (in my opinion) way better and more interesting than Man of Steel. At least SR takes on some deeper topics like fatherhood and what it's really like to have the weight of the world on your shoulders. It asks interesting questions like, "Does the world need Superman?" and "What is a God?" instead of MoS' themes of angst, angst, and yelling (angsty yelling) and it's big question of, "Can Superman punch harder than Zod!?"

It's not a movie that infuriates me at it's existence, it's not like BVS or Justice League where I'm like "no no you fucked it up", it's just ok and not that great, Routh did get a second chance and the current Superman & Lois TV show is doing a better job at them having kids.
