Let's be honest

If this movie was the same movie with the light hearted superman and *beep* like that but had the action like man of Steel, this could have been one of the best comic book movies ever made, possibly up there with the dark Knight, but in the end it was a little to boring. People can say man of Steel is to dark but let's be honest, it was very entertaining and that's why it's better

You make some interesting points.

Superman 3 still remains the best Superman and probably best superhero movie ever

While I don't think it's a terrible movie per se, SR is basically the MEET JOE BLACK of superhero movies. Slow paced and frequently boring. The plane rescue sequence is genuinely exhilarating though and is the one part of the movie worth watching.
It doesn't help that Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth were miscast;say what you will of Kevin Spacey, he was pitch-perfect casting as Lex Luthor. Lack of action aside, I wonder if audiences would had been more interested in a SR sequel if James Marsden and Parker Posey were cast as Clark Kent and Lois Lane instead? They just seemed more naturally charismatic than what we ended up with.
For sure, MoS is far more entertaining.

I really like SR and think it's underrated. It is slower paced, but I don't think that's inherently a problem. I think it's more that the movie doesn't feel interesting outside of some oases of hyper-interest. The concept, "Does the world need Superman?" is super-interesting, but they use a LOT of time to talk about the kid and create a wild scheme for Luthor.

They should have tapped into the comics and had Lex be political when Superman comes back. Superman has a hard time coping with a corrupt politician, because he can apprehend or fight a villain, but this is somebody gaming the system to be selfish and evil. Show Superman's inherent goodness to inspire others to be better instead of just his fists. Use a B-plot villain to dole out some action sequences.

Parker Posey would've been a great Lois. I didn't mind Bosworth. I liked Routh. Some of his performance is surely due to direction, which Marsden might've succumbed to anyway.

Overall I like the movie. There's the plane rescue, the concept, and it gets major points for one of my favourite superhero scenes ever, the "What do you hear?" flight with Lois.
