*Groan* Not another one...

After the several Jungle Book Movies, the Young Tarzan Movies and then the Anty Bully.. you'd think.. you'd just THINK that the movie undistry would finally make an animation movie with a young girl character. But Nooo... of course not.

He'll in the trailer, the 'Princess' is a woman. They can't even have a young girl character the same age as the main character. Why the hell is the movie industry full of sexist pigs? Some high up in the Disney industry himself changed the 'Chicken Little' Character from a girl to a boy, because in his own words, "Girls can't save the world."
Check it out on the Chicken little DVD if you don't believe me.

Besides a fantasy movie like this would have been great for a girl character rather then a boy.

Sorry, but I think the whole movie industry is either 100% sexist (Think of it. They will use boys but never girls - instead they have to find a sexy supermodel to use as eyecandy instead)or have ties with Nambla. Perhaps Both.

I await yet another movie about some boy lost in the Jungle or in his back yard...

Why cant they make a movie based on Baby Island? Two young girls stranded on an island AND having to take care of a bunch of babies while trying to survive.
If the book had been about two boys instead of two girls, they'd not have only made it into a movie but have had at least 3 remakes of it by now.

I know. It's sick. And -I'M- sick of the whole male-to-be-saving-the-world with either a nagging sister or sexy girlfriend (with hardly a role at all)as a sidekick.
I'm not a feminist or anything, but I would LIKE to see some more films about chicks who kick ass (OTHER than Charlies Angels. They kicked ass in a scanty bimboish away), which is why I loved Kill Bill.

But no worries, Sarah. I know of a few films and shows that'll be starring some chicks saving the world for once that are coming in the next few short years. ;)

That's evolution, baby. So mutate or step aside.

So... what you're saying is that... men are robots?

Of course! Because that would make a lot of sense.

It's sexist pigs like you that caused me to repress my emotions for 17 years. I can handle situations as well as, if not better than any male. Grow up and join 2007 brat.

reply

to EverGreenForest, darling im so sorry that you repressed your emotions for seventeen years, i really am. But when i read that post of yours with the start being "It's sexist pigs like you..." the first thoughts that ran through my head were *beep* you" and "who the *beep* is she to say that". Now, is that how you delt with your feelings, going up to innocent men you barely knew and screamed at them calling them sexist pigs? You are being seriously unfair to ALL men. I myself am a male, i enjoy movies with lead males and sidekick woman who seem a little to porportioned, but does that make me sexist?

i see your first words being more sexist than anything else pointed out here and more so than anything ive ever even heard, i also see them as the most hurtful thing I've ever even come across, how can you be so Hypocrytical and with a background like that.

But if women saved the world, who would clean the house and make dinner? LOL This PC world has turned everyone into a bunch of easily offended sissies. Who gets so bent out of shape over the gender of a character in a movie anyway. It's FICTIONAL! Let's change it to Annie and the invisibles. Who cares? Everyone who is offended, grow a backbone and quit complaining on message boards. Write your "congressperson"(See, PC! :) You might even get on "Late night with David Letterperson" (PC strikes again!)

Now that I've seen that on T.V. that is the shizzznite!

Boys are just as emotional as girls. It's just that they tend to show emotions in different ways. What do you think anger and aggression are? That's right, emotions.

I back up what you are saying but as far as live roles go, it's hard to find actresses out there that can stand up to a role like that and actually run with it... The world of hollwood is glitter and glam and so are most of its ladies. Most of them wouldnt even know how to throw a good punch if they had to. So, it's kind of unbelievable to see those types (Keira Knightly as Domino) kicking ass in a mob of men and not standing up to the role at all. Not to mention, once they land a role that has them as a great kick ass character, they go on to do other things. Take Uma Thurman in Kill Bill. Her career has skyrocketed since then and we have seen her in a couple of other action flicks, but her face is a gorgeous asset to her and people want to see her now. It doesn't matter what genre to most so the rest of us are left to wait for the good female actresses to take roles as kick ass leads.

But on a good note, Scarlet Johanson is suppose to be starring in a female type setting of gladiator. She apparently plays an amazon who's people are killed by the romans. Maybe she is captured and turned into a female gladiator and retaliates. I dont know for sure because I only just heard about it. But it should be good. Scarlett was good in the Island and that had some descent action in it.

reply

Uhm, right...

-Kill Bill
-Sheena
-China O'Brien
-Foxy Brown
-Cleopatra Jones
-Girlfight
-Buffy the Vampire Slayer
-Xena
-Bloodrayne
-Trinity in "The Matrix"

Whoever said there are no movies with "chicks who kick ass"?

(And I am sure we could find plenty more than this tentative list, once we search a bit harder)

-Goodnight, mother of six!
-Goodnight, father of two!

You forgot the best one of them all, La Femme Nikita!

reply

No, YOU forget The Heroic Trio, not to mention Close To You.

reply

LOL, then you should LOVE "Flushed Away",as I did,and so did my granddaughter. Where a girl rat is the real heroine of the story. It was a really fun movie, but this one was as well.

reply

I've read about this trend and actually it's a business decision why the movie industry uses so many more boy oriented stories.

The boy oriented tales make more money. This is because little girls will happily go to movies that are boy or girl oriented but little boys will not.

I have two girls and they are interested in seeing anything that comes out that is animated for children, regardless of the gender of the characters.

Agreed, this is still a sexist thing, but it's pervasive throughout society and the way we raise boys and the movie industry is just capitalizing on it.

Ever since the feminist movement happened, we generally raise girls emphasizing that they are just as capable as boys and can and should be interested in anything boys are.

We'd probably need some kind of masculine movement to raise boys to embrace their sensitive sides before boys will clamor to go see movies like "The Little Mermaid" or "Anastasia".

reply

I agree with mickeyddd. Unfotunately, many boys don't enjoy watching a girl heroine(?) unless they are bimboish and dress like sluts. I'm going to see it however, because I really don't give a damn who is in a movie. Guy or girl, if it's a good movie, I'll like it.

Wanna get laid?
Crawl up a chicken's ass and wait.

reply

Psh! I'm seeing the movie just because David Bowie has a part in it, and I adore the sexy, Sussex, British accent of his voice.

Anyway- I think the american public is ready for it. I mean, look at Underworld! It made huge box office numbers, and she wasn't like a Charlie's Angels slut- heroine.

reply

You should check out Hayao Miyazake's animations, pretty much all of them have strong female heroes. They are also much better than Disney's latest productions. If you haven't seen any of them you will be blown away.

reply

YES!! Miyazakes pretty amazing, alright. Disney sucks. I despise Disney.

Disney is distributing all of Miyazaki's films in the USA. And doing a pretty good job. The widespread release of "Spirited Away" was entirely because of Disney's marketing machine.

reply

i'm not a fan of Miyazaki
you really step back and look. a lot of his movies follow the same theme

reply

You. Die. Now. Miyazaki is a genius! You can clearly see the progression of his movies! He sets out with messages of peace and warning of what could become.

As his career goes on, and morons like you don't get the message, he slowly moves away from peace and moves on to portay what will happen if we continue petty squabbling.

Example, from "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds" to "Princess Mononoke"(Mononoke Hime.) In "Nausicaa" we see hope for a better future, in "Mononoke" he pretty much says, "I give up, you're all screwed."

reply

coming from you. with that comment
i dont take fanatics like you seriously.

just because i am not a fan of his work doesnt mean i dont get his movies
they are very easy to get. but his themes for each are the same

work less on insults and more on getting others opinions

UH, hello...Disney overdubs and distributes Miyazake's films in the United States! Don't bite the hand....

reply

seeing as how the book is about a little boy...
changing genders of the character is just wrong, i agree... but the movie is based on the book, and the book is about a little boy....

reply

Hey guys what about: Monster House (strong female character, smartest one in the group of main characters), Ella Enchanted (strong girl character who kicks butt), Catch that Kid, Kill Bill's 1 and 2, Aeon Flux, Resident Evil 1 and 2, Ultraviolet, Domino, Spy Kids 1,2, and 3, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Elektra, Mulans 1 and 2, Alien vs. Predator, Quest for Camelot, the Village etc. All these movie and a heck of a lot more have strong mostly non-bimboish female characters. Now, yes, there are more movie heroes than heroines, but it's not like there are only boy heroes. It's not as big a crisis as you're making it out to be.

reply

Actually, it's arguable that most of the films you mention above where the female is a kick-arse heroine are films aimed at young men - and therefore the heroine is there to be eye-candy as well. But yes, it's good to see Spy Kids and Mulan, but they're in the minority. And they're crap movies. This is a world where Joanne Rowling was told to use her initials because boys don't buy books written by women....

reply

dude, come on
this movie is aimed twords kids and that's what kids respont to
I know it is unfair but if you feel so strongly about sexism teach them that not all of the time boy save the girls don't let a movie do it
