How exactly is this good???

I have to ask, because even though I am a big fan of low budget films, however, this didn't seem to be like a case of hard work with very little money, by a pssionate starving artist. In fact, it looked to me more like it was done with a regular cam corder from Best Buy, and then just turned into Black & White.
It wasn't even funny, nor ingenuitive, nor original in any way. I watched the whole thing until the end, hoping that there is at least something about this that would make me like it from some abstract alternative artistic angle, such as with the case of low budget Dark Star, or Eraserhead, but this seemed to be plain and simply BAD, and the only thing I could get out of this, is pretentious mediocrity.

In fact what it reminds me of, is what I think it really is, a Low Budget underground film made for that same low budget underground crowd, liked only by the in-crowd who knows each other from such productions.
However, I must be out of the loop, or just don't get it, because I sure as hell do not get, how the hell can a student like quality of a film such as this have the success that it has??? Yet so many really good quality films do not see the light of day??? How the hell do you explain this???
I see so much blackmouthing of good quality films on IMDB, yet this is "GOOD"??? Please somebody enlighten me. How? Because I'm either taking stupid pills, or the world has in fact gone completely crazy.

The fact that people will knock on good quality, yet appreciate something like this, just proves to me how much actual talentless bias pretentiousness there really is in the so called film community, or better yet, backing one another's mediocrity, against that mutual enemy called The Real Talent.

Have you ever watched B-movies or Z-movies from the 1950s-60s? Do you ever watch Mystery Science Theatre?

This movie is essentially a parody/tribute to the Z-grade movies. Super low budget. Stupid dialogue. Horribly shot. That one stupid cave that was used in every movie and just about everything is made to be like a z-grade movie.

We just watched this at our monthly MST3k meetup. We decided to watch this instead of an MST3k episode and I think we all laughed louder and hard than we ever have before. This movie had us all in tears we were laughing so hard.

I find it difficult to take the question of why this is good seriously. It wasn't good, that was kind of the whole point. How was that not obvious and forthright?

Thank you! I knew going into it that this was either a spoof or an homage, depending on which reviewer one is reading, to old 'B' horror movies, but there's a big difference between a movie that tried to be a good movie and ended up laughable and a movie that's trying to be laughable from the start. In my opinion they tried too hard. This was just stupid.

And no, it is NOT like "Plan 9 From Outer Space." Ed Wood did not set out to make an absurdly awful move, it just happened. And that's the difference.

Come back when you figure out what parody is. Or better yet, go watch a few 50s sci-fi horror films. Maybe then you'll get what they were going for.

How exactly is a rainbow made?
How exactly does the sun set?
How exactly does the posi-trac rear end on a Plymouth work?

It just is.

The decision to simply convert video to black and white, and make no other effort to make this parody look and feel like the source material, is the main reason many people feel this is a sub-par parody. It gives the impression that not much work was put into this, but in many other aspects except post-production decisions, this is a fairly well-done comedy.

I just love the dialogue.

This film is hilarious! Watch it if it crosses your path. I sleep now. (I do, but that is also a hilariously placed quote)

I think that to love this film, and to truly appreciate what the filmmakers were doing and how brilliantly they carried it off... you have to have grown up on late-night cheapo horror films like the ones on "Creature Featurees" and "Svengoolie", and have a complete set of Ed Wood DVDs.

Like me. Yeah, I've got the complete DVDs right there.
