Why did this movie suck so much?

Honestly, the jokes aren't that different from the other movies, so why do I feel so negative towards the film? Anyone feel the same?

I really liked the first two, but seeing this in theater was so gringe. I could feel it after 10 seconds that this will be a complete waste of time.

It didn't. The best of the series.

It's not a bad movie, but it definitely lost its mojo.

Many scenes feel prolonged and like they go on for way too long. The jokes don't really bring enough new stuff. The girl is boring. Austin isn't as over-the-top or 'charismatic' as he's in the other movies (the best 'Oh Behave's are said with such snarky sarcasm and facial expressions, nothing he does in this movie is on par with that).

Then there's the over-reliance on 'gross' and 'disgusting' - why is eating skinflakes even a thing?

The shadow joke is repeated, but not as funny. This happens to many of the jokes. The Scott-scenes used to be the 'sound of reason' or 'what audience thinks', but suddenly Scott is just a boring, balding people-pleaser.

There's nothing basically or technically wrong with this movie, but there's nothing outstanding, surprising or in the end, interesting. There's almost never any tension, and the 'threat' is too vague and odd, too many villains, and even Michael Cain can't save this complex hot mess.

By the time you get to the climax, it doesn't feel very climactic, and is basically a letdown. The audience doesn't care at that point anymore.

Any scene that you compare with the other movies, just loses completely in this movie. There was always fun tension even with the silly humor in the other movies, but in this one, tension is replaced with boredom and overly-long scenes that go nowhere.

I hate how they try to make the japanese say 'robatto', when the correct japanese would be 'robotto', so they end up saying 'robato'.

The main problem of this movie, as far as I can see, is...

... this movie just isn't very entertaining.

It hits many of the marks, and it sort of delivers 'what you expect', but in a much less interesting way, and the whole 'dad' storyline is just as un-entertaining as possible - and in the end, it doesn't deliver an entertaining experience as a whole.

It's like watered down, half-ársed almost-delivery of the already-tired clichés and repeated jokes..

..in a really boring way, and the only thing it adds is more 'grossness'.

The 'Goldmember' doesn't work as a villain. Why isn't Dr. Evil enough? Did they run out of James Bond references and gags? Or did they try to expand to 'Goldfinger' and deliberately create a non-charismatic villain just like that Bond movie?

By the way, can anyone make any sense of the whole time-travel mess of all the movies put together? Wouldn't the events of this movie DRAMATICALLY change the events in the other movies, considering they time travel in those movies as well and change history?

And thus also change the events of this one as well..

Austin Powers was supposed to be a 1960s character with 1960s clothes, lifestyle, behaviour, attitudes, values, etc.. that's then juxtaposed with the modern world's completely different styles, values, etc.

But in this movie, they try to make him some 1970s pimp at one point.. it's like suddenly Austin Powers has neither mojo nor personality, but becomes some 'template' they can try to mold into any stereotype.

Dr. Evil saying 'Yeah, Baby' is perhaps the most cringy thing I've ever seen.

The over-reliance on 'celebrity cameos' also ruins this a lot. The intro with the biggest celebrities of the time, and then ending with John Travolta and such... groan. This should never be done.

If a movie doesn't need and script call for a specific celebrity to do a specific acting job, then that actor shouldn't be put in the movie - it's not funny or interesting. And they clearly do it only to pull in audiences, which is proof of them not trusting the script/movie/story/comedy to stand on its own.

This movie is like a lackluster shadow of what the other movies do so well. It's just not very interesting, and the pacing doesn't work, and basically everything falls flat. A clear case of 'looked good on paper', that just doesn't work in practice. The biggest feeling this movie evokes is nostalgy for the better movies.
