What's the longest you've gone without sleep?

I'm curious to know how long some of you have gone with little to no sleep, and how it affected you. Me personally, I've gone 4 days straight without any sleep. I would lie down and rest my eyes for a little bit, which does help, but I never entered a true state of unconciousness. In my own experience, after the first couple of days without sleep, I started to feel kind of out of it, like my brain was on autopilot. I could function farely normally, but I felt a little detatched somehow. It's hard to explain. I've never suffered from insomnia, but there have been times where I've been deprived of sleep for one reason or another. Anyways, just curious to know what others' experiences are with going days on no sleep and how it affected you mentally and physically.

About a day and a half. Then I collapsed and slept for about 14 hours.

Why did you go that long? Did you just want to do it to see if you could?

Six days. My entire body began hurting, including my skin...like it was starting to break down. Out of desperation I checked myself into a psych ward hoping they'd knock me out with drugs which ended up being huge a mistake. If I had a hard time sleeping before, this place was even worse. It was basically a prison where they'd barge into my room every FIFTEEN MINUTES throughout the night to shine a fucking flashlight on my face to make sure I hadn't killed myself. I tried to explain to them that the entire reason I'd gone there was because I couldn't sleep and now they were making my problem even worse with that goddamn flashlight! Eventually the nurse did what I'd hoped for--she shot me up with Ativan--and I was finally able to pass out.

3 days is my max... I was in college, I remember being very disoriented, like you mention on "auto-pilot". On the third day I do remember almost being run over by a car when crossing a street, I looked the wrong way and saw that no car was coming, and there was a car coming from the correct way and the guy got really upset and I barely reacted... Got to the 1 class I had that day in the morning (it was like a 3 hour class)... as soon as I got out of there, got home early in the afternoon and went to sleep for about 12 hours straight.

I have been without sleep for about 2 days straight multiple times in my life, it's not a nice feeling.
