Great movie, but the ending kinda ruined it

First off, I just wanna say (R.I.P. Bill Paxton). He was a great actor.

This was one crazy unforgettable movie. But that twist at the end sort of ruined it for me. It was so unnecessary.

What I didn't understand was the narration coming from Adam (or we later found out was Adam). Was Adam speaking from Fenton's own experience? It just didn't make sense. I found that confusing. But other than that, I still enjoyed the movie.

Why did the twist ruin it for you? I thought that it added another interesting element to the story.

I do think the twist does take the audience out of the film by changing the entire meaning of the story, but at the same time, it's kind of brilliantly done. Paxton had originally wanted to place that reveal at the beginning of the film, but James Cameron of all people suggested he wait until the end and turn it into a twist ending. I wonder how the film would've faired had Paxton not taken Cameron's advice.
