Why they don’t make films like this anymore?

When you catch those 90-th - early 00-th movies its just shocking how different they are. The style, the pace, cinematography, lightning... And the most important - music. Like Beethoven, Home Alone, this movie and basically all major studio comedy or romantic movie had this epic festive, sacramental music. That music alone sets the tone of the movie. Its uplifting and fun.

And everything is just so colorful.

And then Hollywood for some reason stopped doing those movies. Now every romantic or comedy has dark tone to it, those horrible yellow and grey colors, forgettable non-music.... And those movies are usually intense and sad.

I really wish Hollywood would start making good old style movies with light and good music. People want to see them. Thats why they keep rewatching movies from the 90-th. and all those Cruel Intentions, Mean Girls, She’s All That....

I do wonder if the invasion of streaming... such as the HALLMARK channel.... has killed the need for these films to come out to the theater? People that like these can just tune in to hallmark for their sweet lil romance hit any time of day, why pay $14 and have to go to a theater? i suppose. I like this kind of thing, but if the market is too small, I get it.

liking this is different than liking hallmark in my mind. honestly, I can't stand hallmark movies (I'm male) and never watch them ever. they are too "TV" too generic, too obvious. the better theater rom coms seem to be better written (interesting), acted, produced, not so cheap and throw away like hallmark. it's a shame, but I guess the market it too small.

You make a good point. Mainstream Hollywood romantic comedies starring people we've heard of are generally on a much higher level of quality than Hallmark movies, which are usually very bland and formulaic. These kinds of movies were a Hollywood tradition from the 1930s through the early 21st century. Too bad they don't make them anymore.

do you think those hallmark films fill need need for sugary sweet romances, even if the caliber is lower? that's what I am thinking. all feel good love story FEELS GOOD still even if it is a cheaper movie. I don't know, I don't watch the hallmarks.

i like these easy fun love stories and am writing a new one now with some never before done stuff in it, that got decent reviews. just unsure if the market exists to pitch, sure as hell not giving it to hallmark.
