George Clooney Says Mark Wahlberg, Johnny Depp Turned Down ‘Ocean’s Eleven’: “They Regret It Now”

“Steven had just done Erin Brockovich and Traffic, and he was nominated for directing both films,” Clooney said during an Ocean’s Eleven panel at the 2023 TCM Film Festival. “So, people really wanted to work with Steven.”

“That said, some people did say no to us,” Soderbergh chimed in. “They did,” Clooney replied. “Some very famous people told us to fuck right off. Mark Wahlberg, Johnny Depp. There were others. They regret it now. I regret doing fucking Batman.”

Regret it because of the money - these were garbage movies.

Interesting and it’s hard for me to picture Wahlberg and Depp in oceans 11 .. i guess I’m so used to Clooney, Pitt, Damon to even try to picture Wahlberg n Depp in their spot. It was perfectly cast as is and Wahlbergs acting can be shaky at times

Maybe that's why Wahlberg took the Italian Job. Pretty similar flicks.

I'm sure Depp didn't give a toss about those flicks. Though I do think he'd make an excellent villain if they ever make another one.
