a new height for idiocy?

Only got about 10 minutes in where a guy gives a rousing speech that ends in enthusiastic applause after saying that "the disease is human emotion" and they have defeated it. WTF? Is this actually the stupidity level of the movie? Then again, I don't know if I've ever seen a movie or tv show where they say that a person has no emotion and then actually portrays the person as having no emotion. Star Trek tried it, but then eventually they just have to give the person emotion. They just couldn't resist.
It is just the inconsistency of making a big point of it, but then they completely fail to even try to display what it might be like. This renders everything meaningless. No characters therefore even have any motivation that makes any sense.

Do what I did. Don’t pay too much attention to the storyline about human emotion and stuff. Just enjoy the visuals, enjoy Christian Bale’s acting, the matrix outfits, the action etc

I think if you watch the movie they actually say that they eliminated the highs and lows of human emotion, but even then the movie doesn't quite work if you focus too much on their behavior. Taye Diggs yelling "I'm not feeling! He's the one who's feeling!" is clearly nonsense.

But it's a really good action movie nonetheless. It's basically an action-ized, relatively low-budget hybrid of 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 and I think the results are pretty damn solid. Gun-kata is also cool and leads to some very unique action. It's a shame that Kurt Wimmer's directing career was brought to a screeching halt with his next film.
