I don't personally think Jack was undercover, but it's been brought up before. Murphy actually saved Jack's life when they serven in Vietnam.

I think the agents were more concerned just because they missed the shot they were aiming for, and they missed the main target. I know Jack was responsible for killing a lot of the swat team, but imagine aiming at someone, and thinking 100% you're going to nail it... but then someone else intercepts the bullets.... it would be a surprise.

Having seen this for the first time this week, and not having read all 367 questions and answers on this thread so I apologize if this is a repeat, my comment is (and I thought this immediately upon seeing it) that Murphy's "recognize" line is addressed at Elvis, because he's shot, he knows he's dying, and they're seeing each other for the first time on the other side. Make any sense?

reply

I think his "Do you recognize me now" line is half to himself and sort or said just in spite of everyone that said he was not the offspring of Elvis... "Do you recognize me now as the son of Elvis?" is the gist of what he was saying.

There was never any controversy that Elvis himself denied Murphy as his son... it was only after he died that Murphy came forward as a possible illegitimate offspring of Elvis. Therefore, I don't think Murphy was asking Elvis himself is he recognized him.

Also, he only had a scorpion bite (not necessarily fatal)and a shot to the leg... yes he was poisoned AND losing blood, but at that pint I don't think he was quite to the point of dying.

Why does this movie have so many refernces to the Vietnam war (he was a medic in the war, use of a huey to extract them from the casino, the guy dying on the deck of a huey)? Was the writer influenced in any way by the war, or did the director wish to illustrate something in reference to the war?

reply

Not sure if you're still answering questions, but...

I was watching on cable earlier this week and noticed something wierd.

Early in the movie the boys are riding in the caddie with the top down (having the Sinatra vs Elvis goof)

Later (at the gas station with bubble gum girl) the Caddie appears to be a hard top.

I know ford had a convertable hardtop, but I didn't think Caddilac did.

thoughts?

(oh yeah, what was the name of the sunglasses being worn by the big boob girl in the elevator when what-itz-name song was playing!!!?!!)

Do you know which scenes were filmed in Mount Vernon, WA? Or even better, where they filmed in Mount Vernon?

reply

I've tried a long time ago to see if anyone else on here knew the answer to this question, and it looks like you're finally the man to ask!

- After the casino robbery they were on the rooftop of the Riviera Hotel waiting for their helicopter. Although part of this scene was if fact shot on top of the Riviera, a good bit of it though, particularly when they are near the copter and as they were taking off was filmed on a different rooftop of a hotel on the south end of the strip (if you look closely you can see parts of the MGM, Excalibur, Monte Carlo). This means the rooftop was located at or near Las Vegas Blvd and Tropicana Ave, miles away from the Riviera.

My question is: What was the actual rooftop this scene was shot at and the helicopter took off from?

Thanks!

reply

I believe it was shot on the rooftop parkade of the SHOWCASE theatre! united artists theatre!

Where can I get Costner's black leather jacket? (sorry it's not completely about the movie)

What's the song played during Murphy's chase of Cybill and Jessie, and what's the song played right as Murphy starts blasting out the warehouse window at the cop cars down below? DON'T say Hed PE because i know that's what is played during his real last stand. Thanks!

How is it that Murphy-an obvious Sociopath-"rescues" the Bubblegum Girl? Why would he care? It's not the fact she's female-he killed the assistant. My theory is it is because she is an "innocent" of sorts-being abused and all-he even goes out of his way to "protect" her by sending her off with the gang as he knows what he's about to embark on and the dangers involved. Was this a connection to Elvis and his reverence of innocence? It just seemed so out of place-Mike was a goodhearted guy-kind of a "Han Solo" level of scoundrel. I could see Mike rescuing a girl, but Murphy? It made no sense.
