Biggest ripoff copy since the Lion King

If any of you have seen the Japanese animation Nadia, You'll know what I mean. I just happened to come across it 5 years since its release, but I still remember watching Nadia as a kid so I actually went through the whole series again just to confirm my thoughts and yup....a real copycat. Don't get me wrong it really is a good animated film. But couldn't those guys at Disney come up with something more original? I know for example that the guys at Pixar always come up with something real nice and original but these guys....I guess they just ran out.

It also copies tons of ideas/shots from Laputa (Castle In the Sky). Nadia was based on a concept by Miyazaki, Laputa was actually directed by him. It features a lost civilization, a crystal power source (levistones) the main girl wears a crystal around her neck that lets her float slowly down into the heroes arms... advanced technology that is decaying and becoming one with nature... I could go on. People point to Nadia, but they should look further back. My wife is Japanese and when we saw this she kept saying "Don't you think this is ripping off Laputa?" Yes. Yes I do.

Well they must have read any number of lost world stories from the 19th century or watched any of the movies they inspired in the first half of the 20th century. This has themes seen in At The Earth's Core, She, The Mole Men, Warlords of Atlantis.. etc etc it's the lost world genre tropes. Get off your high horse pal.

I love watching all you people debating this topic, I really do. What a bunch of morons some of you are.

I love the delicate manipulation of wording some of you use to back your own opinions on the subject. One of you will use the word inspire, while the other will use rip off.

I haven't watched either film. I came on this board to see whether the film had steampunk or dieselpunk inspired themes (two sub-genres I have been examining for my own creative inspriations) but this topic had me curious.

Simple enough, I open up two tabs with the cast of both mentioned films disneys atlantis and this japanimated nadia.

COME ON!! It really is a rip off! ffs, some of you are so ignorant you would not dare see it for what it really is. I had a good ole chuckle when I saw the blatant imitation.

I'm not an anime fanboy by any means. Other than the early gritty films like Golgo13, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll and Akira, japanese media has been sadly westernised and has become a genre for fat unwashed basement dwelling nerds who want body pillows of their favourite overly busty samurai KAWAAAAIIII desu desu ninjitsu green/blue/pink haired heroine.

I should probably watch both pieces for a better idea but I've never really been intrigued by the concept of Atlantis. 20,000 leagues under the sea was fun enough but that's it for me.

It also follows the basic storyline of "Stargate."
