Theory: Did Josh and Mike lured Heather out to the woods to kill her ???

Y'know, this theory actually makes the movie MUCH scarier than the plot of 3 filmmakers being tormented by a forest witch. The idea that Josh and Mike set all of it up to murder Heather feels way more realistic and horrific.

I personally think the witch sent them back in time where they were murdered by Rustin Parr. In "Curse of the Blair Witch" it states the house is burned down after Rustin is executed. Yet it's clearly still standing at the end of the movie. Unless it's not his house and there's another in the woods. I assume it is because of the childrens' handprints on the wall, though.

But it would explain why they didn't find the car. Perhaps the road didn't exist yet. Also the circumstances in which the tapes were found. They were under the foundation of the house yet it would seem none of the stones had been disturbed. They stated it would be impossible to put a backpack full of tapes, film, and a journal without somehow moving the stones. So I think the supernatural was definitely at work.

But if you ignore Curse of the Blair Witch and take the footage by itself then your footage makes perfect sense. That's the great thing about this movie. It's so shrouded in mystery that it can mean whatever you want it to.

Nah, most people think that theory is ridiculous.

So, in this theory, Josh & Mike also employed a bunch of other people to follow them through the woods and break sticks all around their camp at night and disturb their tent pretending to be children? Also, how do you explain them walking south all day and ending up at the same spot?

reply

I've just watched it with this theory in mind -
To answer your points, they could have put the piles of stones or those stick objects there themselves while Heather was asleep.
The walking south all day - IWasn't that also the same day Mike was a bit too gleeful when he admitted he threw the map away? Leaving her with no tangible way of knowing how to get back to the car/main road and so relying on them and their wits - a further addition to the o/p theory. If it was that same day, then I'm not sure at what point Heather seized sole control of the compass. Josh may have deliberately led them north for a while before she took over, or him and Mike could have picked arguments and wandered off in different directionsenough to disorientate her. Plus it's not 100% if it was the same log.
Only thing that I can't explain are the fairly distant noises at night when all 3 of them are shown to be in the tent. And the noises are picked up on camera so it's not as if they're only in Heather's imagination, egged on by Mike and Josh claiming to hear them.

That would have made for a much better movie.

If the movie had been made today, it probably would have pointed down that road.

But no, this film is a straight faced, on the level ghost/witch film.

reply

No, I don't think so. Josh and Mike were too freaked out by the events that happened to be responsible for all of it. They weren't great actors. They were visibly terrified. I just don't believe it.

reply

Nah, that theory isn't true. I'm surprised no one came up with the theory what if Heather lured Mike and Josh out there to kill them?

reply

That would have been far more interesting than the film turned out to be.

If we're gonna re write the Script then i wanta see mike rape heather, heather kill mike then right after josh shows backup with Help
