reply

That sex scene (Irreversible) is on Google videos, someone sent it to me saying, "OMG, this is scary!" . I wondered if it was real or not, it was so disturbing and intense.

So anyway, is O good? I thought I might want to see it.

reply

Depends how old your little sister is. Im 18 and my little sister is 15 and shes seen worse. I myself though, didn't find it that disturbing. It was, but I have seen worse.

Larry: There's a girl out there who calls herself Venus, what's her real name?
Alice: Pluto.

reply

pretty graphic but not that disturbing -- theres alot worse--- if your sister is older than 12 or 13 it should not be that bad

reply

well, it was techincally rape, because she said no. And it was completely unnecessary. But i suppose it's really not any worse then any other sex scene in a movie.

"Remember tonight, for it is the beginning of always."

reply

But it wasn't rape because before they started having sex she told him "Don't hold back." He did nothing wrong, she just shouldn't have said that...

reply

true......

reply

she was a virgin! for f---'s sake.

reply

not true.

reply

Yea, but the second she said stop she took away her consent. And if you want to be intirely techincal, if they weren't, or at least she wasn't, 18 then lawfully it's rape any way.

"Remember tonight, for it is the beginning of always."

reply

I'm 15 years old and I watched it and I wouldn't even recommend it to any of my friends. It was very disturbing, and just as some of the other people said almost rape level. It's very disturbing. I think this is rated R for a good reason

reply

Wow! i didn't know it was 'R' level, i think 'MA' in Aus but it certainly doesn't suprise me. No do not let your little sister watch this with you. It seriously is disturbing, and this is from a female perspective. The scene becomes very graphic and a dark mood comes across as soon as he starts taking it to far against Desi. That is one scene she will remember for a long time, if she sees it, and that's not a good thing.

I may be schizophrenic but at least i have each other

reply

I agree with shaker-maker. It was nowhere near the level of "The Accused" which repulsed me. But it is seriously upsetting, because she screams "NO" at least twice and he keeps going, and she starts crying. I did have to turn away.

reply

Yeah I saw "The Accused" was on a few days ago and it was at that part and I turned the channel. I dont think I've ever watched the whole thing.

reply

I understand that "NO" means "NO", but common now:

1) She gave her consent when they started.

2) She enjoyed the **** out of it until a certain point.

3) You can't just turn a yes into a no in the middle of the act. Once things get set in motion, there's a point of no return!!!!!

4) I understand there's a HUGE gery area because once his jealousy took over, it was a disturbing situation. But to call it rape, I think is stretching it. that's an insult to women who have been truly raped, which is no consent from the beginning.

5) He was crying at the end, which indicated remorse!

reply

[deleted]

Do you honestly think that would ever hold up in court? Consent was already given and just because he started hitting it hard and say stop, that didn't meant oh I don't want sex no more. She just didn't wanted it rough. She was not rape, but I can understand how a woman may view this. Think about the women who was actually rape and gave no consent at all from the start.

reply

[deleted]

If you kill someone and later regret it, does it make the person any less dead? Remorse has nothing to do with it.

reply

In response to #3)

Yes you can. Legally, that's when it becomes rape. It started as sex, and it became rape. It doesn't matter when it happens. When somebody says "no" and you proceed, you are committing a heinous crime.

In response to #5)

So I can rape somebody, and as long as I cry and feel bad about it afterwards, it's okay.

reply

You are absolutely wrong. It scares me that you think a woman is not allowed to change her mind during sex after a certain point.

reply

You can definitely turn a yes into a no. And she did, because he was hurting her. She never claimed in front of her friend Emily that he raped her, but technically, it's rape. There's nothing to discuss here.

reply

That's right. NO MEANS NO goddamnit. There's no if and or buts about it. If she said hey I didnt take my birth control pill today - he would've pulled out and stopped right away. If it was a bad job of fellatio, he would tell her to stop. LOL. See?

No but seriously, an individual is ALWAYS allowed to change his or her mind - yes even AFTER they consent.

Don't think... feel. It is like a finger pointing away to the moon.

reply

I wouldn't call it disturbing, but I would call it "fappable". Whatever that means...

I watched this movie tonight for the first time... I'm always EXTREMELY sensitive to rape/abuse scenes in movies, especially if the film actually goes about making it a point to show that someone is a virgin. I'm so disturbed by rape scenes that I usually will refuse to watch that part, or if I know ahead of time that a movie has rape and such in it, I'll refuse to even watch it in the first place. For example, I REFUSE to watch "Last House on the Left" because I've heard it has a brutal rape scene on a virgin girl. I will also NEVER watch "Rules of Attraction" again due to the virgin girl being roofied and raped..

That said, strangely I didn't find this scene so disturbing! Yes, she was screaming and all that and he was really slamming it in there hard [lol]... but I guess it was the fact that it was made VERY CLEAR that they really were in love, and I already knew that the sex started as truly passionate love-making, so I guess I didn't find it a truly very disturbing rape scene because it wasn't done in evil. It was sad though since it ended up escalating to that rough ending... but if anything I felt really sorry for the girl that her first time was only half good =/

I saw this movie when it first came out in 2001, which would have made me 15, and I found this movie extremely disturbing and have never watched it again. I saw the whole sex scene as rape, because it was not consentual in the end. I plan to watch the film again in the near future due to me studying the play itself in my university Shakespeare class. But I would suggest if you don't like disturbing images, like rape, I would not recommend this movie.

reply

i have not seen this movie??? who's in this scene!

Ay PAPI I LIKE IT ROUGH! LMFAOROTF

Seriously though, it wasn't that bad if rough sex is your thing, different strokes for different folks and all that jazz. She did say stop though and after that it became wrong. On the other hand she did say don't hold back. That's how some dudes end up in jail

Homer: [after hitting a deer statue] D'oh!
Lisa: A deer!
Marge: A female deer!

^lol

but yea, before they started gettin it on she told him that he could do whatever he wanted with her. but it was kinda strange when he looked in the mirror and that mexican guy was there in his place. EW

reply

Oooh so entirely jealous that you get to take a Shakespeare class! I plan to, but I got my general classes and with double majoring, I have to balance. However, I know I WILL take it because I'm going to be an English major. :p

~Aimz~

You talkin to me?

reply

How can you say it's unnecessary? His jealousy was bringing him to the animal level that he was being "accused" of, so he just took it to that level. Did you ever read Othello?

reply

If they took that horrifying rape scene out of 'What's Love Got to Do With It', it would be a good thing for the movie and for the viewers.

reply

Basically they are having sex, and then when he looks in the mirror and in his mind sees another guy looking back while having sex with his girlfriend, he starts going harder, and she's in pain. Not a nice scene, but it's another incident that shows her devotion to him (in a way), because afterward there isn't a discussion between the two of them about what he did. Helps prove just how innocent she is in the end.

Heh, I guess I've been studying this movie enough for my essay. Speaking of which, back to writing it!

reply

it was disturbing but no where near "the hills have eyes". also the entire movie of "o" was so disturbing together that the rape scene kinda fails in comparison with the movie as a whole.

reply

Whatever has been said before: No is No.

People change their minds all the time and that has to be respected. and more than that, it is the law.

Regardless of how any viewers think "She said - don't hold back" or he's in th zone, or whatever, there is a fundamental issue of respect. If both parties are not TOTALLY into it, and consenting, then it's not right. And Not Right extends to meaning rape.

This ain't a Legal Website it's a film site, so we discuss some issues, not necessarily some legalities, so let's move on...

reply

It wasn't disturbing on a level to the rape scene in The Accused, but it certainly made an impact because you could almost feel how uncomfortable and painful it must have been for her... as was O's rage and brutality. I certainly wouldn't recommend the scene for viewing to children under the age of 15.

I wonder whether he actually came at the end of it all? He certainly didn't look as if he was enjoying himself!

reply

Yeah, I agree. I don't think this scene was that disturbing. I think the overall plot of the movie is EXTREMELY DISTURBING. I can't beleive in a movie that features the unspeakable evil that Josh Hartnett's character masterminds, people would stress about a ROUGH SEX SCENE where she not only gave her consent at the beginning, but through most of the act until the rough got too rough. She wasn't complaining though when she was liking the rough!!!!!!! Again, the overall plot is one of the most disturbing I HAVE EVER SEEN in any type of story. This movie is disaster to the MAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

I thought the scene was brilliant
It was not violent in a graphic way but rather an emotional way
There was also no nudity

Desi consented to have Sex with Odin however during intercourse you see only their faces

When Odin begins to penetrate Desi too forcefully she begs him to stop and he would not

I think its so important for everyone to see that sex has to be consentual all the way through

reply

who are you kidding? It was graphic and violent and rape. It was consentual up until the point when she said stop and he didnt. It's funny that all the women who have commented have called this scene rape, while the men who have commented have called it sex.

reply

Actually the whole thing was pretty disturbing, including the sex scene. I don't know what I was expecting, but not that. It is practically a rape scene. Its not really a party movie.

reply

I can't stand that scene it hurts my lady parts its quite disturbing.

reply

How bad is the rape scene from the play?
<.:.> "ThE FuTurE BeLoNgs To ThOsE WhO BeLiEvE In ThE BeAuTy oF ThEiR DrEamS" <.:.>

reply

Considering this is an old post, i think its pretty useless to say whether or not your sister should watch it. But, i would say to anyone else, I watched it when i was younger than a freshman, and i think its important for girls to watch it and know that that is rape. Even if they are only preteens.

reply

star-addicted101, I thought I should tell you that there is no actual rape scene in the play. Things get tough between Desdemona (Desi) and Othello (Odin), but I'm pretty sure she isn't raped by him.

And I want to reiterate that whenever a girl or guy says no, the party should stop, because anything less is rape. It comes in many forms, and I can't believe there are so many people (guys so far, I've heard) who actually think this is okay.

reply

i did not actually find it that disturbing and not nearly as bad as the hills have eyes scene.... by the time i was 14 id already seen much worse. if she's younger than 12 or less i wouldnt show it to her

reply

you guys are pussies. it was just a movie and the scene was good.
