Just finished watching Cold Mountain on DVD. I would've loved to movie to pieces if it weren't for the lovely Nicole Kidman's annoyingly bad performance.

Bless, I love her. She's pretty, she's elegant, she's a strong woman. But she doesn't know how to act (or how to sing, come to think of that). Yet she keeps turning up in all those wonderful movies, destroying each and every one of them. Honestly I can't think of any movie she's in that's good. (She's even gotten an Oscar(!), the reason for which is completely beyond me.)

Please Nicole darling, it's time for you to stop acting.

Cold Mountain, I gave it 5 stars, with much bitterness.

Hey do you even know what you are talking about?!!!
Nicole is by far a very talented actress for she has been able to use the balance of beauty and talent (though i can't say much about her singing, it's adequate) but she by no way a bad actress...

I really think & know she is good and she IS going TO STAY GOOD!!!

I think Nicole Kidman is a brilliant actress and was amazing in this film.
She is obviously quite beautiful but also very talented. She portrayed Ada Monroe perfectly...you could tell she was really committed to this character and bringing her to life.

Generally I think Nicole's American accent is excellent. The Australian women ( Nicole, Naomie Watts, Toni Collette) rule when it comes to fake American accents. And I think all the actors in this movie are good actors. I just don't think these were their best career performances. Jude Law was good here. I didn't care for either Nicole's or Renee's accents at all. I didn't buy Renee's character in her first scene or Nicole's rant about the flowers... And this won Renee her Oscar! But they were all very eloquent at the end. I was even impressed with Jack White.

Great movie overall. I think they brought it home in the end.

I live about 25 miles north of the actual Cold Mountain in NC. I was born in Asheville and raised in a small town just outside Haywood County called Candler. My mother is from Columbia,SC. Believe it or not Nicole Kidman's accent sounds creepy to me. Everyone says it was awful and inaccurate. It creeps me out how accurate it is. My mother sounds a bit like her. But having moved north my mom has a SC accent mixed with a Blue Ridge accent now. But Nicole Kidman sounds astonishingly like a Columbia,SC native. My aunt sounds just like Kidman. I'm not sure if people in Charleston,SC (where Kidman's character is from) sound different from others but there it is. Just thought people would like to know that yes, some people do sound that silly. I though she was quite good. And I'm not a fan of hers either.

I think people should stop slagging Nicole Kidman off, shes an amzing actress and extremly talented. And she was amazing in this movie.

meades nicole looks all of 40 years old. the character was supposed to be about 20 years younger.

I completely agree with you. She destroyed The Hours, portraying Virginia Woolf with overgestures.

She is terrible bad in Cold Mountain. Nicole and Julia Roberts should retire.

i think people criticise the performance because it was hyped up to be this performance that was going to win her second oscar and blow everyone away, just as people predicted this to be the outright best picture winning movie. if you take the performance and the movie for what they are- which is still pretty darned great- then you'll enjoy them more.
i was let down with nicole first time i saw the film, but she gets better with every watch...renee on the other hand seems to get more ostentatious with every watch.

it wasn't a career best performance for any of the three leads in my opinion, and jude probably did the best acting job of the three.

"they should give nicole kidman an oscar for being able to show any emotion after THAT much botox".
