Please please please Nicole, you cannot act.

Just finished watching Cold Mountain on DVD. I would've loved to movie to pieces if it weren't for the lovely Nicole Kidman's annoyingly bad performance.

Bless, I love her. She's pretty, she's elegant, she's a strong woman. But she doesn't know how to act (or how to sing, come to think of that). Yet she keeps turning up in all those wonderful movies, destroying each and every one of them. Honestly I can't think of any movie she's in that's good. (She's even gotten an Oscar(!), the reason for which is completely beyond me.)

Please Nicole darling, it's time for you to stop acting.

Cold Mountain, I gave it 5 stars, with much bitterness.

Screw you, She is an amazing actress, her performance in the hours was truly transforming. Other great performances that I've seen her do include: Moulin Rouge, Australia, Birth, Dogville, Eyes Wide Shut, The Others, Margot at the Wedding, and I can't wait for her performance in Nine. she is absolutely amazing, so screw you you don't know anything.

oh I get it! we're not supposed to post unless we agree with you! are you in jr high??

The only good movie and performance of hers in that list : the others.
The others are just stinkers.

Oh what a day. What a lovely day!

ocme on fo you know anything of acting? not every actor or actress wins an oscar and if u havn't noticed she has one. She SURELY can act and SING. I sing and i find her really good, and withi this I tell she was nominated to the oscar for Moulin Rouge where she SINGS ;D
i think u should reconsider your opinions about acting 'cause it seems they're a lite off base

reply

Oh jesus, if You can sing, she must be able to sing. According to awards, Crash was the best thing since sliced bread, get over yourself, awards don't mean the world, I'd watch Crash again just to watch Sandra Bullock fall down those stairs again, and I think you should reconsider your opinions about spelling "cause" they're a little off base; good game.

reply

It is unfortunate that some people cannot disagree with another without resorting to personal insults. I suspect it reveals a lot of insecurity about their own opinions. After all, if they really trusted them, they would not need to resort to irrelevancies like spelling and phrases like "Oh Jesus..." and "Get over yourself". In fact, if anyone needs to "get over themself" it seems to be one who would resort to tactics of that sort instead of presenting reasoned argument.

reply

amen.

why are you talking to Jesus?

she's was good in the movie. the academy and they awarded her two nominations and one win all her life.

the hollywood foreign press are also experts. there was no way that she wouldn't have won three golden globes in her life and was nominated for this one if she wasnt a "good" actress.

To the OP: You're just wrong and everyone is saying so.

Yep, she was just like a statue there... you know what i mean

The post could have been fine, except at the end you gave yourself away....

A lot fo people have actors they just can't stand. Some people do not. I am of the second kind, and in this particular case, I could not disagree more. Respectfully.

I must say that I don't like Nicole Kidman but she has a few good movies. And I think one of them is Cold Mountain.

reply

As and actor myself, theres very few things I can fault with Nicole, and there aren't many things wrong with her performance here either. Ostentatious make-up and costume is what made her character unbelievable, not acting skills or even her questionable southern accent.

"they should give nicole kidman an oscar for being able to show any emotion after THAT much botox".

reply

She got some clunky dialogue to deliver too. That whole "I can arrange flowers but I can't grow them" speech was pretty contrived. There might have been a better approach than the way she delivered them, but I still think the problem was more with the writing than the acting.

IMO Nicole Kidman together with Streep, is one of the very few actresses who can play anthing. She played a red blooded, flirtatious woman in Moulin Rouge! (and sings beautifully), a delicious femme fatale in To Die For, a troubled woman in Birth , an ice-cold villain in Golden Compass, a trainwreck in Stepford Wives and also gave brilliant performances in The Hours and The Others. She also does something hardly any actress does; take chances (e.g. Birthday Girl). Her performance in Dogville was one of the best I have ever seen. She was nominated for 7 Golden Globes, won three, and 2 Oscars, one win. Also in her recent flops there was hardly ever any critic blaming Nicole for it; no in fact often they said that her performance was the only redeeming quality about it. She is an AMAZING actress by all standards. On top of it, she always seems sweet and shy in interviews and you never heard any word from castmembers or workers on the set that she had any sort of diva attitudes. She really seems down to earth, tries to keep a low profile and does a lot of charity. I have no idea how someone can not like her or at least respect her.

reply

Wow, you did not just compare Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep. Thats like comparing the Red Roof Inn and the Atlantis hotel in the Bahamas (respectively, of course).

reply

Oh well........I rented this movie..........watched it.........and during most of it longed very much for Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara........there is no way anyone can compare a serious cinematic study of the Civil War with what was presented in Cold Mountain! There was no brilliance and strength to survive, no matter what, of Vivien Leigh; there was no dashing scoundrel who did survive well, while still supporting and serving the Southern cause, like Clark Gable. Also, there was no story written by Margaret Mitchell. I believe only the very young who have not had the privilege of seeing "Gone With the Wind" can in any manner think "Cold Mountain" to be a film about the Civil War of any significance. Also........filming in Romania seems a good idea, because today, the area of Cold Mountain is probably around Gatlinburg or Cherokee, North Carolina.............the south did win!! The Yankees come down by the droves to spend their money there!! Oh well, that's life!

reply

You can't judge every Civil War related film to Gone With The Wind. That would be like comparing "Field Of Dreams" to "The Pride Of The yankees" and being disspointed that no one Field Of Dreams died from ALS.

To be truthful this film was probably more realistic.

I have seen both movies and read both books and Cold Mountain, by far, is my favorite. It is an amazing book and the movie did it great justice. Nicole's performance in this movie changed my opinion of her acting ability - I thought she was wonderful in it. This was a "modern" day version of the Odyssey.

reply

I agree with you 100%.

reply

there is a diffrence between ur opinion and the actual life

the actual say that nicole has one oscar ( even bruce willis and brad pitt didnt take it till now) and another nomination for it

besides the goldens globes she had before many times already

all of this and u see nicole cant act? oh come on -- if she cant act - so who can act in the world?>

she is number one man - really ---- and if u dont like her actting or her performances that s means that u dont - but its not means that she didnt took one oscar and many many loves her

Hey u! Please... i please u knock it off.

Nicole is one of the most respectable women in this world. I have watched ''Cold Mountain'' since it was premiered and up to now, i ve watched this movie for more than 5 times and i have to say i really love it. Nic's performance was really amazing on it. And her singing, god it s so lovely although it s awkward a lil bit, but she is an actress, not a singer so please dont judge her like that, she sings better than many other actresses/ actors.

This subject line makes me laugh, and for the most part I agree, but when she's in her element, she does act well. Watch Dogville or The Hours, and you ought to agree.
