Is it inspired by dangerous liaison?

I just watched dangerous liaison, and then I immediately thought that isn't the story a bit similar to a movie I saw Sarah Michelle Galler in it and found my place here. I have thoroughly enjoyed both films and there is also another Chinese remake of the story. I guess I just never thought this story would be so popular.tell me what u think;-)

Yes! ....just not as good.

And Dangerous Liasons is based on a play, which was based on an old French book.

It was well publicized that Cruel Intentions was a modern take on 1988's Dangerous Liaisons which starred Glenn Close and John Malkovich, which was itself based on a French play which, in turn, was based on a 18th century French book.

In an recent interview, Ryan Phillippe said he based his manner for CI on John Malkovich, in honor of his previous characterization of more or less the same role.

It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.

Teen movies based on old stories was randomly big in the 90s. This, Clueless (Emma), She's All That (Pygmalion), 10 Things I Hate About You (Taming of the Shrew).

While I loved clueless. I’d say Cruel intentions is the best modern adaptation of classic literature.
It’s hard to adapt well classics and for me Cruel Intentions did it best.

reply

It's not so much inspired by but an intentional teenage remake.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

As it states at the start of the film.

reply

Yes, it’s a modern adaptation, and even cameos Swoosie Kurtz as Sebastian’s therapist, who played the Reese Witherspoon character in DL.

reply

Are you sure? I think the Reese Witherspoon character in DL was played by Michelle Pfiffer.

reply

That’s possible, I haven’t seen DL so might be misrecalling.
