Ever had a "Ripley" moment?

Ever had a moment where you are put in a position to make up lies, or BS to in order to impress someone, or to sound like you know what you are talking about? I feel like everyone does that from time to time.

I told John Updike that I had read his most recent novel and enjoyed it. He seemed pleased, and I ended up stuck in a weird, much-longer-than-planned discussion.

No, not really. I've had a couple of 'Meredith Logue' moments, where I subconsciously over dramatized an event or a person exchange to capitalize on its momentum and make it bigger and more solemn than it actually was.

Like, for example:I woke up this morning and the whole world had gone 'Meredith Logue' on me: Cooler56 revealed himself to be the one and only Matt Damon, the IMDB turned out to be his personal favorite page he frequents all the time, and my comments would be published in the New Yorker!

When I was a kid from the ages 8-12 I did that a lot, but for the most part I try to keep it on the level (however, since on some occasions I may be talking to someone who is dubious or full of BS themselves, they don't believe me anyway).

reply

maybe that's why they call it Ripley's Believe It Or Not
