Bad movie, but it was fun to see.

This movie is a mess. I still had fun going to see it in theaters. Did you have a similar experience?

reply

No : I was dragged there by an old friend who was a hardcore fan while I knew nothing about Star Wars at the time (I confused Star Trek and Star Wars and didn't even know what a Jedi was, my first SW movie was TPM and my brain didn't deem anything from it worthy of being remembered).

My friend hated the movie with a passion and spent the entire time loudly pointing out everything that was wrong about it.

So I was confused because I didn't know anything about Star Wars in general, then I was more confused because the movie in question made no sense whatsoever and then I was even more confused by my friend who kept talking about stuff from the OT that I didn't know anything about.

So my friend completely ruined this (already terrible) movie for me and still to this day it is the absolute worst experience I ever had in a movie theater all things considered (so not just the movie : I've seen even worse ones since...).

reply

That was similar to my experience with Revenge of the Sith. I was done with Star wars by that time... but forced to go.

reply

Yeah, me and the gang went to the theater and enjoyed the movie. It was only afterwards where the criticisms began to emerge. Some parts of the movie are brilliant (any scene with Palpatine), and others are ridiculous (Sand gets into everywhere and Death Star designed by bug insectoids instead of Bevel Lemelisk).

reply

The best of the prequels.

reply

I think i knew that Star Wars was never going to be as good as it was after seeing this

reply

None of the movies made after this one have been as good as it was.

reply

It's true, the second and third prequels are bad movies by any rational standard, but can be very enjoyable if you're in the mood for a space opera.

reply

Alcohol helps. I'm using it now for a Charles Band flick: "Hideous!" (1997)

reply

I quit drinking years ago, so you should know... .it IS possible to enjoy the prequels without being hammered!

Well, not "The Phantom Menace".
