How I would have made the prequels

1. Padme would not be a Queen from Naboo, she would be a force-sensitive Padawan who is training alongside Anakin.
2. Yoda is Obi-Wan's master, not Qui-Gon. (They told us in ESB that Yoda was the one who trained Obi-Wan).
3. Darth Maul is Palpatine's apprentice throughout all three movies. No Dooku or Grievous, they are unnecessary changes made to sell action figures.
4. Padme and Anakin fall in love, which is against Jedi rules.
5. After being told that he can't love his fellow Jedi Padme, Anakin becomes angry and begins making his way toward the dark side.
6. There is no rule of two. There are just as many Sith as Jedi.
7. The Battle of Geonosis is between an army of Jedi and an army of Sith, rather than droids.
8. Jar Jar either doesn't exist, or has a completely different personality and speech pattern, one more like a pirate/bouncer.
9. Anakin becomes Darth Vader after killing Darth Maul.
10. We see Darth Vader receive his new red lightsaber at the end of Episode 3.
11. We see a glimpse of Han as a boy, being raised by Wookies.
12. We get a glimpse into the future in Episode 3, seeing a child/tween Luke and Leia on Tatooine and Alderaan respectively.

Lucas's fundamental flaw was this: even though the original trilogy was not really made for kids, he knew that kids loved Star Wars and bought lots of toys and shit ($$$$$$). So he intentionally wrote Phantom Menace for kids. I think only the strong fan backlash caused him to alter the 2nd and 3rd movies to be less kid focused and to write Jar-Jar out (Jar-Jar was originally going to be a main character in all three movies).

It was this original choice the screwed the entire trilogy. There never should have been a movie about Anikin as a kid, or even a whiny teenager. Lucas wasted the entire opportunity on bullshit just to appeal to kids.

The films should have started with young Anikin already a Jedi or at least in training. They should have established what a great Jedi he was and how much of a powerful force on the Jedi side he was. A big problem with Lucas's films is that Anikin was never established as a hero, he was just a whiny bitch the entire time. Imagine if the character of Luke Sykwalker was unexpectedly turned to the dark side in the 3rd film of the OT - how powerful would that have been? That's how the prequels should have gone: 1 film to establish Anikin as a true hero, 1 film to set up Anikin's turn (and personally, I wouldn't make it anything to do with a whiny bitch needing love), 1 film to show Anikin betraying the Jedi, turning into Darth Vader, and ushering in the rule of the Empire.

He also should have never hired Hayden Christensen to play Anakin. His acting was so bad, that they now have named that particular form of bad acting after him! All he was good at was doing his own stunts when fighting, that's it. So many people have now called him "Whine-akin Skywalker," and pretend he never existed in the prequels.

I even went so far as to call Kristen Stewart in the "Twilight" movies "Hayden Christensen with boobs."

cool idea. since Disney owns star wars, what if they reboot/remake the prequels? (I don't think fans will like that.)

also about number 11: "We see a glimpse of Han as a boy, being raised by Wookies." I heard han solo Originally going to appear in EP 3.

I doubt the prequels will ever be remade, as they aren't universally loved (to put it politely), and there's no demand. It's more likely that a prequel-era film would be made instead, I mean why not? You could make a movie about some soldiers deserting and forming the original Rebellion, or the fascinating lives led by the queen of Naboo's handmaidens, whatever.

And yeah, I think the movie outlined above could have been better than what was actually made, but Lucas wanted to make The Vader Story from childhood up, so there we were. At least the first prequel was the only one with the kid-film tone, the other two got much more adult. The politically astute can still be chilled by parts of ROTS.
