This deserver a better a much better rating and much more recognition.

Everytime i see or think about this movie i think it should be regarded as a great classic action adventure movie.

All the actors are great (Anthony Hopkins is exquisite) the story is great, the pacing is great, the action is great, the chemistry between Catherine and Banderas is great..

Everything about this movie is great!

Unfortunately i don't think there's a lot of people who are familiar with it!

I come here it only has 6.7 .. I think this is completely unfair.

Well, the plot had some rather ridiculous plot-holes, but other than that it was top-notch. Catherine was mesmerizing, she alone would have made this movie a personal hit, but it has so much more on top of that... I liked it better than Pirates personally...

This and Galaxy Quest are criminally underrated.

The Mask f Zorro
Galaxy Quest

Completely agree, the plot of a father removed from his daughter and saw her raised by his mortal enemy was pulled off to the best I could see. I remember seeing this in theaters and remember every minute being fun.

Just got done watching this movie again. Back in the day, I thought this was one of the greatest movies I had ever seen. Watching it now, it's pretty silly and filled to the brim with plot holes. Lot of plot contrivances too. You mean to tell me that a guy who has no clue how to wield a sword and is out of shape can become an Olympic level athlete and world class swordsman in a couple of days of doing pushups, playing jump rope and getting whipped?

If Captain Love knew Alejandro was lying, why didn't he expose him immediately as opposed to letting him masquerade as Zorro? Why is he even shocked when Zorro pulls his mask off when Zorro told him who he was 5 minutes beforehand?

Why does Diego all of the sudden feel the need to go confront Rafael? Seems to me he could've helped Alejandro/Murrieta and confronted Rafael at the mine. Then he would've lived and could've revealed himself to Elena afterwards.

How did Rafael even find out that Diego was Zorro? For starters, he had to have had some pretty damn good eyesight to realize Zorro had been shot in the arm, but that doesn't explain why he came to Diego's mansion in the first place.

Alejandro's motivation for revenge isn't convincing. Captain Love may have been a bad guy, but killing notorious criminals wasn't a big deal at the time. Had Alejandro and his brother not been robbing people blind, the brother wouldn't have died. Not to mention that the brother decided to take the coward's way out by killing himself.

All in all, it was a fun movie, but I can see why it got a low rating. Whoever wrote the script just didn't care.

How do you know it was a couple of days, perhaps it was weeks, maybe even a
months? There is no way to tell. It's left up to the viewer. I had always interrupted as over the span of a couple of months.

"If Captain Love knew Alejandro was lying, why didn't he expose him immediately
as opposed to letting him masquerade as Zorro?"

This one is relatively easy I'm surprised you even posted it. Alejandro was
Impersonating a Don, there was no way Capt. Love could confront and
accuse a Don without evidence. He was only suspicious of him being the missing
Murrieta brother. So, he wasn't allowing him to "masquerade" around as Zorro.

"Why is he even shocked when Zorro pulls his mask off when Zorro told him who he was 5 minutes beforehand?"

That’s your interpretation of his reaction. I never thought he was shocked, simply enraged. FYI: This isn’t a plot hole.

"Why does Diego all of the sudden feel the need to go confront Rafael?"

It wasn't simply about Rafael as you should know, it was about exposing him as a faux father, and Del a Vega needed Elena there to witness this. She wouldn't have ever been at the mine scene if this didn't occur.

"How did Rafael even find out that Diego was Zorro? For starters, he had to have had some pretty damn good eyesight to realize Zorro had been shot in the arm, but that doesn't explain why he came to Diego's mansion in the first place"

I must admit, this is a pathetic attempt at nitpicking. It was clear
to anyone watching that he sustained an injury during the fight. He had a bloodied red gash on his arm.
Suspension of disbelief isn’t even needed here, but if it's needed for you, apply it padawan.

These last two hold more merit than the previous ones. The others you simply didn’t look hard enough, or didn’t take miniscule leap required. And, your nitpicking was stretched so thin I think a layer of paint could've drastically improved them.

"Alejandro's motivation for revenge isn't convincing."

This is a decent observation. In truth Capt. Love is simply doing his job, and as you stated, if they weren't robbing people he's presence would've never been needed. My only assertion is that his vengeance is fueled by the fact Capt. Love decapitated his brother and used it as a souvenir. It's only later we learn how bad he truly is, so take what you will from that. This^ is your only warranted complaint; however, it’s a good one.

"but that doesn't explain why he came to Diego's mansion in the first place."

This is a semi-good point, it’s never explained; however, the only logical assertion is that he was followed. This tie's in well considering how soon after Del a Vega arrives Don Rafael arrives as well. But, again, suspension of disbelief is slightly needed here, but it doesn’t matter considering it’s irrelevant to the story arc. FYI: If you’re going to declare “plot holes” make sure they are congruent with the story arch, otherwise they aren’t plot holes.

Overall, I really enjoyed the film 8/10. Solid story, good acting, fun to watch.

The a actual phrase via “back in the old days,” you uneducated ghetto fuck.

Agree...the stunts and the soundtrack are off the hook. Definitely a classic.

Couldn't agree more,it even looks better today than many of the dull and devoid of style movies that come out nowadays. The ending is heart breaking and tragic, diego recovering his daughter only to die almost immediately.

I too was surprised at the low rating. Not a masterpiece for sure, but very entertaining film - and isn't that what films are supposed to do?
