Brad Pitt is awful in this

He comes across like an autistic retard rather than the Angel of Death with an eternity of knowledge of the inner workings of the universe. There's a fine line between foreign entity in a human body and full on retard, he fell into the latter category.

reply

Yep, he was cast for his looks not his acting ability.

reply

While he is no Laurence Olivier, he is not such a bad actor as you suggest (e.g., watch Seven or Seven Years in Tibet). He even won a supporting Oscar recently. I assume the director wished for him to play it this way - childlike and ignorant, the idea being that he was incarnated for the first time, so had no experience of being a living being. You can criticize that decision and Pitt's performance, but let's not distort the film just to gratuitously insult Pitt.

reply

Are you completely blind? I criticised his performance in this movie specifically, I said nothing about his overall career. Jackass.

reply

He is right though that much of his acting is dependent on the director's guidance - and the script.

If the script is at fault, you'd have to reword the title of this thread. Also, what guidance was given by the director? Maybe BP played this role precisely how the director envisioned it? If so, is BP at fault or is it the director's vision?

reply

I doubt the director told him to come across like a clueless retard.

reply

That's the thing though -- and the problem I have with the script -- he's not always acting like a "clueless retard," but rather, acting on-and-off like a "clueless retard."

He knows Drew cheated on an exam to get through college, he knows the internal workings of the IRS, etc., but he's dumbfounded at the most simple things that surely he would know about. And no, not talking about how peanut butter tastes, that's something -- as a disembodied spirit -- he's never experienced before. But his behavior is so childlike most of the time I find it incongruent as to who and what he is with the knowledge that he possesses.

reply

First I will say I can't stand Pitt in general. Your comparison sounds like a 10 year old bully. Intelligence is measured by the ability to understand what is acceptable to say. You clearly lack that Intelligence. You could of found a way to express your opinion without making derogatory remarks about autism. I work with adults on the spectrum. My students demonstrate the abilities you clearly lack. Grow up.
